Posted 13 years ago #Ok, so there's a record shop in my city that I know often puts releases on the shelf before the official release date, as I've hit up early drops on other albums before. So I thought I'd check the new arrival list on their website, wasn't really expecting to see Fun DMC there, but I check and what do you know, its on the list! Oh man, I couldn't believe it, I was so excited, I was like a kid on christmas morning!! That then became my number one priority, to get into the city as quickly as possible and cop Fun DMC!!
So I cruised in with the Funner than Leather mixtape pumping in the car, copped the cd at the shop, and cruised home with Fun DMC pumping!! yeah!
AND, when i'm at the shop, i'm flicking through the records (straight to the 'P' section of course), and what do I come across? A copy of the Next Step on vinyl!! Oh damn, does it get any better!
I gotta say, the album is really nicely packaged. The comic book is dope (when do we find out what happens?). I got home, threw the cd in my discman, cracked a brew, chilled and listened to one of my most anticipated albums in a long long time. I can't believe how dope this album is. Beats and ryhmes are chilled out and fresh as. I'm already blown away by the album and I've only listened to it once! I really like how the album rolls along so nicely, like it supposed to be listened to from start to finish. I'm just really hoping that I'm gonna be in the country when puts tour here next, as i'm cruising overseas for a while at the end of the year. In fact i'll be in the City of Angels in December for a few nights, I don't suppose there will be any live PUTS shows happening in LA in December?! That would be too good...
Thes, I really respect and appreciate the music that you and Dub K make. Well done on a top notch release, and thanks for doing what you do. You've created a really unique and special album here. I reckon hip hop would be a lot less fun without you guys.
Let me roll you around around this Coopers beer...
Peace. -

Posted 13 years ago #Yo treks i have found myself in the same position. couldn't wait for the vinyl, so it looks like i'll probably be buying this album again when it drops later on though.
the production is fusking tight. they really stepped up their game with this one. sounds absolutley awesome when you turn it up loud. this is without a doubt one of the best sounding hip hop albums i've ever heard. seriously.
i thought that up to and including 'the whiz' this was definitely one of the best p releases (which is saying something). I know this is going to step on some toes, but apart from 'same beat' and 'the mike and chris story' the last quarter left me a little cold though? Any thoughts Treks? And this is just my personal opinion based on listening to the album three times, so no offence is intended to Thes and Double K.
and gamin on ya and the ultimate 144 are probably the best new hip hop tunes i've heard in a long time. great work, as always, from the ever reliable P.U.T.S -
Posted 13 years ago #Hey! We the only ones putting twenty f***ing tracks on albums any more!
There's gonna be at least a couple people don't feel on any release with that much material but they all tell a part of the bigger story. Thanks for picking it up, tell our friends, everyone buy the physical copy so we can keep making this bullshizzle!!!
HAVE FUN.
ps. funkyhomospaien, California is a dope track and you know it, as is People Riddum - CHOP! -

Posted 13 years ago #Ok, I feel like an asshole now.
For the record, I am absolutely loving the new album, and 15 tracks of fire is more than I should ask for.
And the main problems I have with the last couple of tracks are personal gripes. Vocoders (or similar vocal effects) (yeah I don't like the tupac track or lil wayne either) and sped up vocal samples just aren't for me.
I will buy the vinyl in addition to the CD, and deal with getting off my lazy ass to lift the needle twice on side D.
Thanks Thes and double K, for again releasing some of the dopest, truest hip hop of the last few years.
Again, sorry for seeming like a ****. -
Posted 13 years ago #Yo im gonna get 2 copys yo! Thats for sure!

I'm really digging the entire album, I don't think there's really any weak tracks at all. And yes I agree, Ultimate 144 is off the hook!! -
