Posted 13 years ago #I think with the new release of the already classic FUN DMC its time to finally state what us loyal supporters have known for a long time now that People Under The Stairs should now have place set fo themselves at Raps High table . I am talking about these blokes in the same breath as Eric B & Rakim , KRS , De La Soul , KMD , SA , NWA , Psycho Realm , Pete Rock & CL Smooth , Mountain Brothers hell anyone who moved your soul from your body .
Look at PUTS vast selection of tunes its packed full to bursting with life changing hip hop music that is ground breaking on very level . I dont make music i can barely wire a plug so i havent a clue as what it is that the lads do to get " That Sound " that makes PUTS just so special . It just makes love to your eardrum in a way that i havent heard from anyone before since or after . From love song to battle rap its all covered and then back again how many modern day crews can say that ? Sometimes i wonder why PUTS arent bigger than they are but then i realise that they are as REAL as they come and dont make music for anyone but themselves and for that WE SHOULD ALL be extremely thankful . Thes and Double i salute you both .....your special and i dont apologise for saying that .

Posted 13 years ago #I think you talk a lot of sense, as always since the last CD was released i always find myself going back over the last releases and just amercing myself in the PUTS sound. Lets face it whatever CD you play it just sounds as fresh as it ever has. What Hip Hop group can claim that....ATCQ even had problems after there 4th, Maybe De La Soul but other than that....6 CDs of freshness....there can't be many.
I just really understand (well maybe i do) why more people aren't talking about them, even people who i know that are meant to Hip Hop fans are blind when it comes to PUTS.
But part of me thinks in a way its nice to have a group that are special and we all can just enjoy without to much media hype and spiel. As long as all of us are pushing the word and PUTS are happy with there status then all is good....they just need to keep making those tunes and we need to keep buying them. -
Posted 13 years ago #The best of all time? Hard to say... The best of my generation and my personal all time favorite? Hellz Yeeaahhh. I can never get tired of puts! After I overplay my "O.S.T." or "Stepfather" records after listening to them on rotation over like 10 times , i just pop in some jazzy "Question In The Form Of An Answer" or "Next Step" into my stereo to change sh!t up. I dont know man. It sems like whatever mood im in PUTS has got a song or an album for it. Its not just about their awesome music for me anymore. I get nostalgic listening to every song for different reasons. I've had good times while listenin' to every song.
SF Knights for example.- A while back when I made a trip up to SF, went to this houseparty. I put on my ipod and did a little DJing. Put that sh!t on and almost everyone in the house was chantin' "On a warm San Francisco night!" during the chorus. Everyone was dancin and passin the 40s. great night.... Every song makes me remember some really fun sh!t or some really funny misadventure i had at a party.
Damn, sorry for the rant. Probably could have just said I agreed... -

Funny story mate
I agree with you in the respect that from the next step to FUN DMC conjures up images of past adventure whilst listening intently to PUTS tracks . Thats why i hold them so dear more than any other band in music not just Hip Hop . PUTS are sacred to me . -
Posted 13 years ago #Since getting Fun DMC I've gone back and listened to O.S.T and Stepfather (which to be completely honest I'm feeling a lot more now) and I'm just loving it all. Like someone said they all still sound so fresh.
I'm not sure about the greatest of all time bcoz PUTS seem like they're in a league of there own! But personally probably one of my favourite musicians.
Thes One is definitley in my top 5 producers of all time tho, up there with RZA and DJ Zinc (Drum and Bass producer).
And I feel there is a lot more to come from them.
I've reached the dizzying heights of DJing at my local pub this Friday so I'm going to drop some P... Not many hip hop fans there so it should be very interesting!
But if Tuxedo Rap can't get them at least head nodding then there is no hope for them... -

Playing the PUTS in an English boozer full of flat cap bitter drinking locals would be very intresting
I reckon a few wrinklies might get up and get down after Tuxedo rap kicks in . Goodluck -

You don't know the half of it. I was listening to July 3rd when my tire blew up on the freeway -
Posted 13 years ago #Greatest of all time. I actually say yes, at least as a group no one has made better music, as I know my history have listened to gangstarr..run dmc, De La etc..etc
-
Posted 13 years ago #Definately up there with the greats in Hip Hop history (at least in my book), I've only managed to see them live once which was a couple of years ago at a really intimate venue in Munich and I've got to say it was the best concert I've been to since the Def Jam Tour of 87. I had such a good time that I lost my voice the next day.
Plus six great albums that are always on my playlist. -
Posted 13 years ago #I think ive been misunderstood . I didnt say THE greatest of alltime that is a very bold statement . I think PUTS are easily one of the best to to this bar none . If you had to name five crews past and present who elevated Hip Hop to another whole level of dopeness whilst in essence staying true to this music of ours then id say PUTS would have a place cemented in Hip Hop history . The quality of their music just blows everybody else out the water . Its special with a capital S .

Posted 13 years ago #Yeah I think you might be right there Badwool.
I dropped Tuxedo Rap at my local lol,
there were a few people dancing and lots of head nodding.
So all good -
Posted 13 years ago #i dont think anyone can claim to be the best of all time... but the puts are what i connect to the best in the hip hop table, even in music as a whole. no frontin, just fun, chillin, reflective, yet pushing the envelope. that's real ass music right there. props to those doing it right.
