-
Posted 9 years ago #9th
Sabzi
Madlib
Jake One
and of course Thes -
Posted 9 years ago #That's too broad a question really... Are we just talking about people working now, in respect of their current work? (You said who people are feeling "these days") If so, Thes wins hands down. Not being obseqious, there' not a lot of competition, but Thes is easily the most consistant guy out there and has developed his style - both tecnically, musically and emotionally - without losing the thing that makes it his.
If we're talking more widely, I'd say Beatnuts '92 to '94, Pete Rock '91 to '94, Preemo '92 to '94, Diamond D's early stuff, Ice Cube / Sir Jinx '90 to '92, Prince Paul '88 - '93 (Buhloone Mindstate is a masterpiece!), No ID '92 to '94, Muggs '91 to '95, Organized Konfusion's first two LPs. This is all stuff I'm still digging on "these days"... -
Posted 9 years ago #yeah i was talking about producers currently working now, but yea thes is always great. i think damu the fudgemunk is comin up pretty strong right now
-
Posted 9 years ago #Chuck English anyone?
-
Posted 9 years ago #Yeah I second Damu on that. And he puts out tons of free stuff which is always nice.

I couldn't agree more about the Japanese jazz/hip-hop, Samurai Champloo has an album/sound track of all the songs used in the show, a huge number of them are by Jempaur/Nujabes, I've been feeling that.
Also can't forget Oh No, Jake One, Evidence can make some sick beats too. -

samurai champloo is ill though none of it is jemapur! nujabes / fat jon are a nice combo. Fat Jon's other solo instrumental ish is nice. Japan has been killing it with the jazzy hip hop for a while although there is alot of filler. Nomak is cool but not too varied.
good producers i'm feeling -> Olive Oil + Jneiro Jarel! -

-
Posted 9 years ago #if you're not already listening to them:
Samon Kawamura (best out of japan)
Flying Lotus (appearing more often)
Blockhead,
K-Murdoch (from the other other P)
give a listen, dope sh!t, good quality. -
Posted 9 years ago #K-Murdock's amazing
-
Posted 9 years ago #A lot of these are some of the more cliche selections, but these are who I truly think are the best...
Ant
Exile
Stoupe of Jedi Mind Tricks (those weakass emcees he's got on his tracks don't do him ANY justice...his beats are some of the most energetic, intricately layered beats I've ever heard, and if you get a chance I'd advise you to at least listen to the instrumentals of the album Violent by Design...they're nuts)
Classified
Count Bass D
Kno of Cunninlynguists <-------- ILL
Evidence
Dre
Hi-Tek
Dilla
Domino of Hieroglyphics
Madlib
Kanye of old
9th Wonder
Doom (I don't like him much as an emcee, his beats are a different story)
Pete Rock
Prince Paul
That being said, Thes is still my favorite. He just makes beats you can live to, it's hard to explain I guess. -
Posted 9 years ago #And, of course, Double K!!! His beats are off the hook, too!
