Masquerades and Silhouettes is a damn classic - All Hapepning Now less so. And now apparently dude has an american accent... ?? -

Also did an instrumental album called sniper music not that long ago, did an album for River Nelson and a track called Mothers Theme off Trife da Gods recent LP. Dude was always one of my favourite uk producers. -

Posts: 1,874Posted 11 years ago #NOOOO!!!! Ah well, what can you do. You know, i've never heard anything that's anything like Masquerades and Silhouettes anywhere else. That really chill slow style of beat, the nature of the samples, the low tones of LPs rhymes, tis f*cking beautiful... I wonder if anyone knows of any similar albums... E&A's first album first born kind of reminds me of the philosophical tone...
Here's something you might be able to help me with YoYoPo, there's a sample in Masquerades and Silhouettes which goes something like "History is a corrupt document [said the egyptian]. The more noble the facade the more brutal the reality, the more pious it seems the more bloodthirsty it is"... something like that, can't remember exactly and don't have it with me. Do you know where this sample came from? So obscure it's making my frontal lobe hurt... -

Lewis Parker's best work for me is that of "All Happening now" & "Masquerades and Silhouettes" although it's a few years old it's still dope production!
I'm guessing you've all heard.......Jehst - Return of the Drifter (If not check that out) The production on that album is nice, kind of an Lewis Parker style.

Ye right on with the accent...however I can relate in that when you've spent such a long time in a certain place you do pick up the lingo and accent. I've lived a lot in california, and had the accent thing when I was younger..would it happen now though..maybe not.
Heard B-boy antiks? that was before M&S, pretty dope from what I remember.
The instrumental album is very library lp like...espionage, spy, old james bond kind of themes..he's got the concept formula down for sure. -

As an album it's so atmospheric - the Star Wars/desert/medieval references hold together - and I think it really stands out as a concept album that is actually consistent throughout. In terms of another concept album that has a consistent theme I'd say check out Kashmere's In The Hour of Chaos.
Albums in a similar vein to M&S... not sure! (I swear there's another concept album I'm always talking about but can't remember it right now...)
Return of the Drifter is another fave. I'd say order of preference is :
Masquerades > Return of the Drifter > Falling Down (Jehst's next album) > It's All Happening Now (which is ill but has a few fillers. The track with Klashnekoff is hard-as-f*** tho!!) -

Gotta love some of the UK Hip Hop scene
Phi-Life Cyphers "Millenium Metaphors" is also a dope LP - Specially the production.
The Herbalisers have some decent stuff out there - Production again + alot of good featured emcees.
Nightmares on Wax - Amazing stuff, specially when DJ EASE flipped the sample from Pharcyde - Passin' me by (Quincy Jones I believe)
Nice to see all you UK heads aswell! Makes me feel like I'm not alone
