Obvious comparison, but when Dilla died he was already well known and his entire life has been documented and analysed for days. Nujabes though - I'm a massive fan of this dude, yet I know next to nothing about him. I've searched and I've never seen or even heard of any interview with him (even in japanese)... only ever heard of him doing about 2 live shows ever and there's literally about 3 photos of the guy on the whole of the internet.
Just thinking about it, the only thing people know is his real name... and his music.
And this dude genuinely changed my life.
And then it's actually like 3 weeks ago that he died. Without the internet you wouldn't even know... then again without the internet most fans wouldn't know about him to start with.
That's deep man, damn.
so so true man, I don't even know the guy, what he looked like, etc... but would have his back, like a brother, without question. I've always looked at the internet like it's "The Force". It's as Great/Evil as you allow it to become, the potential for both is enormous. I have loved music since I was old enough to push Play, but I have had tremendeous strides in furthering my love & knowledge of music through the internet in my later years in life...
As I worked today, w/ a very somber mood about, I found myself asking,"why does this man, one which I hardly know, touch me so deeply?" I never thought such heavy news of a so-called stranger would affect me like it has. Music has taught me yet another lesson & once again proved to me the power it posseses. Listening to his Catalouge today was hard, but good. I look forward to hearing the stuff he had been working on right up to his death...
