This EP is garbage and depressing. A 2 minute long interlude and a 4 minute long interlude sandwich two tracks that sound like they were recorded after extensive naps. As a Kickstarter backer, this album was supposed to come out a year ago. Then they have the audacity to release these half-assed tracks as some sort of appetizer that was supposed to be for us backers but now its free for everybody. It sort of mocks us backers with this whole "good things come to those who wait" vibe. I love De La but I don't even care anymore abut this album.

I haven't even listened to the free EP yet but I'm not surprised by your review Eso. Sadly it seems De La wanted it all ways on this one & might've bitten off more than they can chew. I hope the album proves me wrong when it finally arrives but I have to say the amount of "guest artists" on it worries me,

Wow they haven't released an actual studio album since The Grind Date? That's crazy. I haven't really checked for De La in a while.

99% of so-called hip hop artists today WISH they could come up with tracks half as good as these two that sound like "they were recorded after extensive naps"
seriously, imagine bitching about a delayed P release the same way. entitled much?

OceanMan, if you think that these two tracks measure up to anything recently released by the likes of Aesop Rock, Mr. Lif, Elzhi, Royce the 5'9" and even PUTs then you should really re-evaluate how you judge music. Its one thing to blindly defend your music idols but its another to accept their half-assed work when you've paid upfront for it. Especially when they themselves deemed these two tracks of not being worthy of being on the proper album release. We should expect that De La have the same kind of quality control that Thes One has.
As for feeling entitled, I don't. Considering that this album idea was announced on KickStarter on March 30, 2015 with an expected delivery date of September 2015 and I paid $75 to own it whenever it was released (which I would do again). Then it gets pushed back to April 2016 and finally to August 2016. I understand that art cannot simply be created on a set schedule and can cope with delays. What I cannot put up with is being mocked for patiently waiting as they did with the interludes. Also add in that communication has been sparse over the last few months and you can see why a backer would be upset.
If Thes posted a KickStarter or plea on Instagram for support in putting out TGOS3, you and I would jump at the chance to do so. And if it was delayed I'm sure Thes would update us on the progress like he has on past releases. What I know he wouldn't do is try and trivialize our support with some cutting room floor material and a second reading of The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.
Next time you want to call someone like me out for feeling entitled, don't. Have that argument with someone who doesn't pre-order or even buy music.

people have different tastes in music. (obvious statement of the day award)
these 2 tracks, in my opinion (<--important), are better than anything i have heard by any of the artists you mentioned, and i daresay better than 1/3 of the tracks from these recent PUTS EPs. again, just my opinion, which obv differs from yours.
also, not sure where you got the idea that DLS are "my idols". i could give 2 shits about DLS, i don't really think i even have "idols" and if i did they sure as f*** wouldn't be musicians.
i understand you 'donated' (? or whatever it is if you contribute to a kickstarter) but the fact is that DLS doesn't owe you jack sh!t other than the album "whenever it will be released".
you say that you are being 'mocked" by the lack of communication on their part, whereas i see 5 separate updates on this project in the last 4 months alone.
all in all, yeah, you sound entitled as f***.

Sure, we can have different musical tastes and opinions. You don't have to care about De La Soul or whoever. Maybe we have separate definitions of entitled but wanting what you've fully paid for doesn't fit. Especially when a lackluster EP is sent by them to hold us over. They could have kept it. Just my opinion.

Damn, that escalated QUICKLY!!
Not that I wanna get sucked into this, but I think you're both overreacting a bit...
Honestly I was a bit on the fence about this whole De La kickstarter campaign from the beginning: First off I believe kickstarter should be to help people get new, innovative projects off the ground, not necessarily for well established artists like De La who should have many other avenues available to them when promoting or selling their product.I thought they layed it on WAY too thick how groundbreaking their use of sampling live instrumentation/their own session music is and how it would factor into the production/creation of this record. C'mon guys - people have been doing this for years... Also, as much as I recpect and congratulate Pos, Dave and Mase on maintaining such a big fanbase over decades that they were able to attain and even exceed their funding goal in a matter of days (that's what kickstarter is about btw, OceanMan - folks pledging a certain sum of money to purchase various products/rewards that they'll only have to pay if the proposed project is successfully funded and realized), it also left a bad taste in my mouth that they kept on pushing and looking to maximize capitalization well after said goal was achieved. Sure, no one's gonna turn down (free) money if it helps with making the record, but IMO as soon as you take someone's money you're also entering into a contract of sorts to deliver the service or product in question in a timely manner. And it appears as though De La have failed to do this by missing their deadline by roughly a year...
Perhaps it says something about me being a bit of a grumpy, disillusioned old git, but as much as I can sympathise with eso being quite annoyed at this point after putting up no less than 75$ for something he's yet to receive (and which is neither as good nor as exclusive as he was initially led to believe) I believe projects like this have a huge inherent probability of disappointment and failure. Honestly I can't think of (m)any artists I'd be willing to back with ventures like this, much less by plunkting down large(ish) amounts of money and after them taking a lengthy hiatus. It requires a certain amount of blind faith - and I'm sure we can all reel off a list of beloved artists who've either fallen off hard at some point down the road or simply "updated" their style to something we weren't really feeling or expecting, so I for one have become a lot more cautious over time...
In fact maybe that's what this all boils down to: expectations. And y'all know what they say about those being the B-word.
Figure I've rambled on long enough for now - most of you will probably rate this post TLDR as it is.
Carry on. -

If you actually don't give a sh!t about De La, that's some pretty low regard you're holding TGOS in. This is below De La's usual standard (Beautiful Night is ok, Trainwreck sucked,) and saying their throwaways are better than a chunk of this incredible swan song we're receiving from the P is indicative of either some extremely understated De La fandom or very weak taste, in my opinion.
I know De La didn't need my money upfront to make an album, so I didn't back it. Really enjoyed The Grind Date, and I'm hoping and expecting the final product of The Anonymous Nobody will be more of that quality rather than the AOI albums.

As they say...opinions are like ass holes. The bottom line is De La are a great hip hop group that has done so much I just think they have be careful that they are not tarnishing their undeniable history with something sub standard & a little communication with the fans goes a long way.
