I knew they had done a couple songs for Q-Tip's supposed solo album The Last Zulu. Would be awesome if they had been working on legit Tribe album this whole time.

Worst. Idea. Ever.
Just leave it alone. Seriously. The last thing we need is more unreleased Dilla beats, c&p Phife verses or stuff like those new remixes on the 25th anniversary reissue of 'Travels'.
I'd much rather see the new Q-Tip solo or official releases of his shelved albums. There always seemed to be some kind of rumors about a Tribe reunion floating around, but I reckon most of them were just that: rumors. With everything we know about the breakup of the group and the guys relationships at this point, it doesn't make any sense to me that they would have started recording again either. If anything it would make more sense to go back and put out all of the "lost" vintage songs that were never officially released and only leaked on various bootlegs etc. - not that that's ever going to happen though. No big label is willing to deal with the complexities of tracking down the original recordings, licensing, clearing and so forth, when putting out straight up reissues or whatever new music they can get their hands on is so much easier (and more profitable) for them.

Heard about it a weekend or so ago when my man who owns a record store mentioned it. Same feeling as Twelve; the article references The Love Movement - I love Tribe but that album was reason enough not to release another under the Tribe moniker.

C'mon, there are plenty of worse ideas out there. Voting for Donald Trump for 1. Or voting for Hillary Clinton for that matter (though one is a much worse idea than the other).
I'm of the opinion that I'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. Tribe is my favorite group of all time. I want to hear the album, and I don't care if it sucks (though I highly doubt it will), it could never change my love for their music regardless. For instance, I really don't like Kaamal The Abstract but that doesn't mean that I think the album shouldn't have come out at all, and I still want to hear the next Q-tip solo album even if I have to wait 20 years for it.
I also don't understand the assumption that it's going to be bad. This has obviously been kept under wraps and we have no idea what work was put into it before Phife died. It was probably 2-3 years ago that I heard Tribe was going to be doing a couple songs for the Last Zulu, that's plenty of time for them to come up with a quality album. Especially if each of them had good ideas going into it. Q-tip has said that he already had People's Instinctive Travels mapped out before they recorded it. No reason to think the new album couldn't be thought out the same way. And Q-tip being the perfectionist that he is, I don't think he'd let a bad album come out anyway.
Last point: THE LOVE MOVEMENT IS f***ing AWESOME!!!!! I never got how people could hate on that album. For me, it's at least 4th on their list ahead of People's Instinctive Travels and maybe even 3rd (all their albums being spectacular in my opinion). I think I'll listen to it right now actually.

Oh and other than Pharrell's, I really liked the remixes for People's 25th anniversary. The J. Cole one especially.

The worst ATCQ tracks > 90% of anything out there in 2016. I'm optimistic. Sure beats the likely Pete Rock & CL Smooth LP following their recent tour..

Not sure where this Roots x ATCQ track is from, but I wouldn't be mad at this coming out properly:

Honestly, I'm just incredibly tired of EVERYTHING being milked to death (and beyond) nowadays. Nothing is sacred, apparently nobody believes in quitting while they're ahead or preserving a certain integrity anymore by leaving something/some piece of art untouched. If it makes dollars, it makes sense, it's 99% about product being sold.
I'm not saying Tribe's legacy will or could be tarnished, but I'm more than willing to stand my ground and say I think it's a bad idea anyway. I'm very much looking forward to the new Q-Tip album, but then that's a completely different animal to me. Any news to do with an ATCQ reunion, especially a super secret one that was supposedly recorded (finished?) shortly before Phife's passing but may now be released shortly after his untimely passing (and without him being able to hav his say about how it is presented) just sends up A LOT of red flags for me in these overcommercialized times.
And even if it should turn out to be fantastic I'm not looking forward to the way it will undoubtedly be promoted. Overblown media coverage does nothing to increase my appreciation of artists.

"Live from the Tonight Show" apparently [59.28]? I was gonna say it sounded very much like a live, improvised performance thing.

^^ My thoughts exactly.
I'm still not excited or particularly optimistic about this and looking to form an opinion strictly based on the actual music rather than the abstract concept of there being a new (final) Tribe album.
It's been so long... Comebacks are SO difficult to get right... and this one is particularly tricky because of everything the group have been through since 'The Love Movement'... -

Well I'm excited. A hand written note from QTip at least makes me think it's heartfelt and for the right reasons. We'll find out soon!

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/06/arts/music/a-tribe-called-quest-new-album-interview.html
"On Friday, Nov. 11, A Tribe Called Quest will do just that, releasing on Epic Records “We Got It From Here, Thank You for Your Service,” the group’s sixth album. It features all four of the group’s members plus a host of guests — André 3000, Kendrick Lamar, Elton John, Jack White and Busta Rhymes"
I seem to recall reading somewhere that Consequence would be making an appearance as well? Hopefully we get at least a few tracks that are pure Tribe with no additional guests...
