Loving all this talk about vinyl, & just thought I'd share a few things. Regarding the industructability of vinyl, I just remember the time I used to have a loft room in my house, I used as my sound lab, & one day left my copy of Liquid Swords standing against the stereo when I went out. Went back 2 days later to find the summer sun had been shining in the window, directly on it, & melted it into a banana shape, I could've cried.
Also as far as keeping wax alive, my 15 year old son (Damn I feel old saying that!) just got his first turntable for xmas. Got a pretty good taste in music too, although not too much hip hop.
The only other thing I'll say is, for me now the best practice would be if artists could do like the P, & when you buy the vinyl, give you a digital link too. (My Highlighter vinyl came right before xmas, but wifey hid it, and wrapped it up! Best present I got!)
I think between vinyl & digital, that cd's have had their day.

One thing about newer vinyl is that people that dont really know what they are doing are cutting transcoded mp3's onto vinyl so theres a bunch of dead space on the tracks still
But overall vinyl sounds leagues better

I suppose I should really back up my statement.
If it wasn't for vinyl...they'd be no PUTS...end of.

Just watched the Gensu Dean/Large Pro video on the "Fresh for 2012... You suckas" thread, and remembered this article I read the other day, kind of pertinant, thought I'd share...

Weird really, that although I've always listened to underground music, I never thought the actual PRODUCT would end up that way. Sad days now when everything has to be homogenized and mass produced/marketed. The internet is a fantastic tool, but it also has A LOT to answer for.
OR maybe I'm just a sad old fart living in the past. -

Takin' it waaaay back:
Found these pics of Edison (otherwise known as Kool DJ Eddy Tee) getting his groove on:
The oldest phonograph actually used a rotating cylinder instead of a platter. Imagine DJing with those. Might make for a more complex beat juggling session: maybe you line up like five 'records' on a spinning dowel and DJ like five of them at the same time. Your 'crates' would look more like canned goods cabinets, too.
Anyway, enough of my randomness. Just thought we could take a moment to pay tribute to the grandfather of the LP.
