Posted 12 years ago #Top 10 for me:
Fav. Movie:
1. Raging Bull
To me the best work Scorsese has ever done. And arguably the greatest actor's greatest performance. Its an extremely powerful movie, but very subtle. And the black and white cinematography...
Runners Up not in a particular order.
2. Do the right thing. Spike Lee at his best. The best movie about racism in America.
3. Clockwork orange. Kubrick was nuts.
4. Fargo.
5. La Haine (The Hate). Amazing movie. Its french and is about Algerian youth in France. Touches alot on the hip-hop influence in the arab projects.
6. Apocalypse Now. Brando at his best.
7. Chinatown.
8 Taxi Driver. Scorcese's 2nd best work.
9. Pulp Fiction. Best dialogue in a film.
10. Forrest Gump. And im not joking either.
To all the producers: do other artforms influence your music making? I feel like film does it for me. Alot of the same concepts in film making can be applied to music. Cinematography is like sound texture. Dialogue is sounds working off each other and so on... -

1) Allegro non Troppo: An italian mock tribute to Fantasia, featuring some wavy classical, great art direction (Bruno Bozzetto, works out of Canada these days), and a wonderful dance scene with a Gorilla, peep it.
2) Metropolis: Osamu Tezuka did a Manga based off this film originally from Fritz Lang. The layering between the computer animation and classic hand-drawn animation is flawless. The story is a cross of Che Guevarra and Walt Disney; take it as you will. Also contains the best movie company entrance in the world; Emotion Films owns heads.
3) People Under the Stairs: Why do I need to explain this? Wes Craven was, is, and always will be god of horror films.
4) Iron Monkey: Robin Hood meets Shaolin meets Ninja-esque costumes. Donnie Yen's best role, Wong Fei Hong's character was actually played by a little chinese girl who could kick anybodys ass. Find the Tai Seng edition of this film, Tarrentino dicked up the re-release and needs his ass handed to him.
5) Shaolin Soccer: Best concept for a movie, kung-fu or otherwise, to come around in years. Stephen Chow is destined for great things, Jackie Chan concurs with me on this. Bruce Lee Goalie: holy guacamole!
6) Project A: Speaking of Jackie Chan; "I may be a criminal, but I'll never be - A POLICE OFFICER!!!"
7) Project A-Ko: There's just something about a barage of missles from a skimpy outfit that just deserves posting. Never seen it in Japanese, can only imagine how C-Ko sounds. . .
8) True Romance: my favorite Tarrentino inspired film; too many names to name, too much insanity to describe; I just know that white wizzo' and the Sonny Chiba Triple Feature, buttery smooth.
9) Serpent and the Rainbow: Back to Craven; Sampson Simpson's midget cousin makes an appearance in this film. Along with a Carpenter film whose name escapes my memory this is basic horror theory in action, worth the True Story setup and trying to figure out what the hell would be real and what's just product of Wes' imagination.
10) Dr. Strangelove, or How I learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb:
My favorite Kubrick film which took all the negatives from his direction of Lolita, cleaned it up, and turned it into a great political satire film which in these days of Bushisms and general stupidity in politics still provides insights and still makes Peter Sellars a pimp among prep students. -

The manga version was deep, I like the way they make it 'retro-future.' Jazz music and robots.
