Stepfather listening guide...Started 15 years ago by Thes One / toggle topic info
i stole the album too. I feel bad doing it but believe me I'm gonna hook up the CD, the LP, and of course any 12" singles.
the album is dope thes!! Nothing tops Lyrical Miracles, though.
ok saint gawdammit! you need to buy three copies penance mang!
i am flattered and at the same time i want to put my foot through my mpc. download shmoundload....i still love yall anyways jsut buy it when it drops and bring some friends yah?!
Hyphy is a movement in SF right now that seems to be one of the new US rap trends following the sliding emphatuation with the southern rap thing. Is it dope?" well some is, some isn't but I have an enormous amount of respect for any dudes who flick off the commercial trends and create something regional, so in that respect Hyphy is the real deal. Dudes like E-40, Keek etc. are holding it down and I am with that.
Are there wannabe hyphy tracks on the album? yeah right. A better critical toss would have been "it sounds like a fake ass neptunes track" but you would have been a little off there too. You see, those particular drum sounds do not EXIST anywhere else in the world except for that song, so in that case it isn't comparable to anything. The way we rapped just came naturally ove rthe beat, but hey we know we were bullshitting - thus the last thing you hear on that track!
The drum machine is different than the one from the beat battle, that was a Wurlitzer Side Man from the mid-fifties. this one is a damn near homemade custom joint from the mid-seventies.
anyways, look. I hope everyone enjoys the record and I'm sorry it took so long. the next won't be far after. We just had to sort some sh!t out, build a new studio, i had to get married, etc. knowwhati'msayin? life sh!t. it's all explained in the record really. And try not to compare it like, oh i like Next step better or OST better. The only right way to look at the catalogue is sequentially and as a big picture. Stepfather is about Family. OST is about Hip-hop. ? is about coming of age and so on. There is no comparison, they just are what they are. The mike and chris story. Each have good songs individually, but as albums they are our life story and everything is everything.
Please don't smash your MPC, Thes! I know you want to shut it down, but your whole guestbook on myspace is like "he's so fresh"
I'll buy three copies and I'll buy up all yer merch when you come back to San Diego and rock the Casbah, to make up for all the sh!t I didn't get to buy when you were at 'Canes in last October...
Well Thes, I had to hear the new album, I mean it no sh!t is like a drug. I have all the albums on CD, LP as well as many singles Tres and OM. No doubt I am going to buy it when it drops as well as promote the hell out of it even to strangers if I have too. These kids were up at my house the other day while it was rockin' and I was like " this hasn't dropped yet and you know it's dope so you better go buy all the PUTS albums immediately damn it!" I sounded kind of like a fanatic, which I am, and this kid started laughing so just to screw with him I put on the most serious face possible and said " Does it look like I'm joking?" The next day his buddy came up to me and was like " Man, you really freaked out my buddy the other night, he's obsessing about getting those PUTS ablums now." So I said " What's the delay 6002 GO BUY IT!"
All in all though when it comes to Stepfather I know it's healthy to analyze and critique and have dialouges, but man I guess I just see things in more simple terms. I don't want another O.S.T., I mean that album is my sanctuary and is the one album that changed my life forever more than any album. I can't even put into words the profound effect it has had, but instead of trying to put Stepfather in it's place, I'm just glad to see Chris and Mike keep on making music the way they do, dope as always. I don't see why some people don't get it. I'm not saying that cats shouldn't be critical, but come on it's just dope hip-hop man. Don't get me wrong, becasue I'm a picky asshole when it comes to my music, and I know a lot of hardwork, thought, and heart whent into the Stepfather, but I can't do anything but chalk it up to just what I expected. Yet again another dope ablum full of Concept with Ill rhymes and Fresh beats. What else could you want. I could sit here and disect it with ya'll like I do with my crew, but all I'd be doing is pointing out all the things I love about the new album, like the fact that Thunder Thumbs doesn't f*** around on the drums, so just quit it cause you obviously aren't listining close enough.
slc better show mad sales. haha!
I want to smach my damn moniter, for a second, everyong put in the effort to stop the drip, and now everyon has the sh!t already,,,,>>>????
even if you say you going to buy it, i just dont like this.

everyone is welcome to enter, here are the rules:

the song with the chorus "more than you know" really connected with me. Im looking foward towards the dvd BIG TIME!!!!!!!!!
"how my dad sacraficed in the field pickin fruits, so his oldest? son could grow up diggin loops" that hit me and its the line in the song that gave me goose bumps
that line alone gave me that "feelin", their are only 2 songs that do that.....T.R.O.Y. and The stepfather song with the chorus "more than you knew? or know"
the feelin im tlaking about is that feeling with you connect with a song that gives you goose bumps and just that sense of pride.
what if the album that people are downloading that suppose to be the ADVANCE is really a fake? and the fake one we are passin out is the fake for the fake album? what if the real album has yet to come out? boy that would be the dopest thang to go down in MP3 hip hop music downloading HISTORY!
oh hold up hold up let me get this right...
people are only allowed to say positive things in this thread?
with the hyphy sh!t i meant tracks like pass the 40 (and yes i do know black sheep is sampled, a wolf in sheeps clothing is one of my fav cds) and pumpin
the tracks will probably grow on me, but after that FIRST LISTEN i didnt like em at all, maybe its cuz i really hate hyphy music
maybe i was too spoiled with the OST album and shouldnt have expected another OST when i started listening Stepfather
and like i already said, its way better than the average rap album dropping these days
stepfather will prolly be in my top 5 2006 list
hah, dude its all good. no of course people can be critical. it would be fresh if people waited until the album actually came out to do so but whatever, its the internet. can't stop it...
Mikes gonna laugh when he hears someone called "pumpin'" hyphy. It ahs also been described as "dixieland funk" so to each his own i guess
i thought of it as sort of a jazz brush workout and tribute to the word pumpin'.
as far as the album that leaked being the album. yes its the album. i wish we were that fresh but we are not.
well all i can say about all this leaking and people commenting, is that i just cannot wait to roll down the shop and pick up my stepfather cd, pay for it at the till, run home and listen to it for the first time.
i'm not really into the whole downloading scene so all this stuff is anathema to me!
thes - i cannot wait for the record, do you have any idea when the P might tour the UK? cheeky me i know!
hey Thes, following up on the uk tour request, come to Nottingham and play at Stealth..
I say this as I went last night to see Breakestra play... it was f***ing cool, and the crowd was great, I'm sure you'd be received with open arms dude..
Anyway, I'm not giving into temptation, I'm waiting until the album drops, cant wait...
so i didnt even know about this "hyphy" business till now and checked for it. didnt like it. a bunch of grown men flailing their arms around with a drum machine in the back. meh. maybe im missing something.
my friend read my post, and the song where thes talks about his father picking fruit...the song i was talking about was "days like this"? thats the song that hits me.
can wait for the release!!!!!!! And the DVD!!!!!!!
