Stepfather - First Thoughts!!!!Started 11 years ago by AGP / toggle topic info
Okay I got mine from HMV yesterday for £9.99 so my first thought was DAMN! - What a bargain. Digipak with dvd etc!!!!! Practically giving it away!
I've been spinning it pretty much non-stop and it's simply beautiful. Everything I could have hoped for and a whole lot more. I won't go on about specific tracks and spoil it for anyone, just rest assured it is absolute quality.
Thanks to Thes & Double K for coming with the goods yet again. Your music is as close to perfection as I've heard and the hard work you put in is evident in every single second of the album.
Oh, and to the dude who was on here the other week saying that PUTS had gone all 'hyphy' - what the f*** were you listenin' too cos' it certainly wasn't Stepfather!!
only spinned it a few times but already loving 'Tuxedo Rap', 'Jamboree pt1' and 'You'.
Its gotta be on my player for a while yet!!!!
'the choice it up to you, its up to you.....!!!!!!'
when are The P touring the UK again?
also the DVD and poster are cool, man!!!!!!!!!!
Flex off makes me tingle its pure PUTS and i love the fact that it sounds different again from the last LP...PUTS are always pushing forward, always...
Just got the album at Tower. $12.99. First CD player I see I'm poppin' it in. I'll get my thoughts on it later.
No thoughts yet.....I'm broke til payday.
classic! moving things forward with that distinct puts sound
MAAAAN! mos definitely worth the wait! A great way to finish my birthday, for real, i bought it earlier today and tonite is the first chance i've had to listen. Sounds Fantastic.
Drums sound f***ing awesome, as does ey'thing in the mix, definite props to Thes for a beautiful sounding record both musically and sonically.
Props to Thes One and Double K
Oh and 'Reflections' looks like it's gonna be my jam! That and the rest!
The story of the P and what they mean to me. I discovered the P by accident one day while perusing through Turntablelab.com back in 02. OST had just dropped and I was bumpin the 36kbps quality Real Player version of "I-15", that bass line got me good I tell ya mang. I then proceeded to Napster Earth Travelers and Schooled in the Trade. I can remember one time me and my homie found an old joint in my mom's car and smoked it while "Schooled" looped in the background.
Christmas of 02 I got Question and OST and bumped them non-stop workin as a janitor at this retirement home back in St. Louis(FVSC word em up!). Anyhow shortly after I copped The Next Step and ...Or Stay Tuned when it was released. sh!t was SAFE I'll tell you that, I would listen to that ish non-stop in the worst factory stereo system Ford ever put out, but nonetheless it was FRESH.
About this time in my hip hop life I was a little skratch DJ that made beats on Fruity Loops 2.5 just to loop and cut too. The P however inspired me, I wanted that dusty, but still slick sound in my beats too. I started diggin at this now defunk Flea Market(Barnhardt Flea Market...again word em up!). Found many a good joints there and my beat making began to take a whole new shape. I went from Skratch Loops to Dusty Loops, from sine wave basslines to filtered slap funkadelic 80Hz hums.
I've grown a lot in my style of making beats, but I've always looked to the P as an inspiration, not to mimic their style, but to say: give something back, like Thes or K would for Pete Rock I guess( )
Stepfather is nothing short of genius in my humble opinion. It's more than dope beats, and ill lyrical blessing. It's solid, damn good, music. I also want to add that Thes' engineering skills are top notch. On the reals...that sh!t hits soo damn hard without distorting. It KNOCKS boy! This will be on constant rotation on my flight to L.A. Thursday. If I smoked, I'd be blazed and well glazed right now listening to Eat Street, then I'd cruise over to Famous Phil's and get me a Cheesesteak...aww sh!t.
Thanks Thes and Dub K.
