First Ever P song YOU Heard(Where were you?)Started 13 years ago by gunlighter / toggle topic info
This is all about the first time the P invaded your brain.....The first time I heard Double and Thes was on a car ride to class my sophmore year in college. One of my boys dropped me and my friend off at class and on the way to class he had a mix cd of random stuff. 'Acid Raindrops' came on during the ride, the line that caught my attention besides the chorus, was 'on any given day like my Mr. Coolio we hanging'. Since, I have been a huge P fan. I want to hear about what got you guys into PUTS.
Where were you the first time PUTS began their invasion?
i had read a review in URB magazine for Question In The Form Of An Answer. This was my 4th year at UIC. Around that time, I had gotten a refund check from my student loans. Me and some friends headed up to the Virgin Megastore on Michigan. I bought the CD off the strength of that review. Didn't hear any music beforehand. The review painted a picture of hip hop music that I thoguht I'd like. Been a fan ever since!
But the first song that got me open was Youth Explosion.
I remember sitting in my dorm room and listening to that CD. That was a damn good night.
Youth Explosion for me too...
Heard it on a Scratch Perverts tape and loved the tune - had to go and buy the album stright away.... the rest as they say is history.
First time I heard the P was back in freshman/sophomore year of highschool. I was watchin an extreme sports TV show called "Bluetorch" and Yehaw Partystyles came on. I missed who the artist was and forgot the name of it so I scowered the internet to find the song. I ended up listening to practically all of the Ps CD samples on amazon.com before I found it, and by then I was dedicated to PUTS.
The first time I heard of PUTS was around 2000-2001 perhaps... They were featured on ESPN2's Tony Hawks Gigantic Skate Park Tour. They played "schooled in the trade" on the show and I was hooked. I downloaded a lot and ended up buying everything. Been a P head since then.
well it was the KPM Radio promo thing on the 12" Fat City comp, around 2000 i think, they called it underground run, it's on AMV1, then very shortly afterwards found Next Step Vinyl and the sticker said you must buy this, it was in replay in Bath i remember it well...so i did never looked back since.
Holy sh!t, the first time i heard them was Bluetourch too! i wrote down the name at the end of the song and put it in the internet, the rest was history, i bought all of their albums and anything i could get my hands on. im pissed i didnt get my hands on AMV1 but maybe ebay will be able to hook me up.
I was thinkin' too and we should include the first song we heard PUTS play live. Their first show was insanely memorable for me because I discovered Giant Panda, that night and PUTS played a really good set as well. They opened with "DrumBox" and Thes was dressed like an ol' school b-boy. After that they blasted into "Yeild", one of my favorite PUTS songs. Just thought it would be cool to remember.
the first time i experienced the puts was my freshman year in college, fall 2003... my friend had a shitload of rap cd's, i would burn him bay area gangsta sh!t and reggae as he was introducing me to east coast and underground music that i didn't even know existed (Big L, Mr. Lif, Ugly Duckling etc.)... i was looking at his cd tower... i saw the OST case and asked him about it... he said, "f*** all the other sh!t, take the cd and the case to your room, read the booklet and listen to the cd... and call me in the morning!" The first song was "Intro".... i was already high... then i started hearing this man speak of being high on musical dope... then the sample hits... the next day i entered his room like kramer and said "GIVE ME ALL OF THEIR CD'S!" i eventually bought all the puts cd's but now im gonna need the vinyl to represent the art form. favorite puts jams are always fluxuating, and that shows how versatile they are. earth travelers is a gem, and the feature in the dvd that shows how it was made makes me appreciate it even more. effortless dopeness. to me, the puts are the incarnation of the elevation of original hip hop. if it wasn't for them, i'd be walking around town everyday rapping "RUNNIN OUT THE CRACKHOUSE, OUT THE CRACKHOUSE!". word.
The first time i heard puts would have been around 2000 i think,
i was getting into all the good hip hop, i had just discovered the amazing talents of the old Rawkus crew via Sound Bombing 2.
I was in a music shop called Dance Arena in a local shopping cntre.
I saw a cd called "beats of the underground", it caught my eye cos of the name and also from its cheap $15 price tag.
I asked the shop to listen to it, the first track on the cd was explosion, i didnt even need to listen to the rest of the cd, (although it does have other mad sh!t on it, rob swift, allies, nextmen and heaps more)
i just stopped and said i'll take it, lets just say ive been hooked ever since that first sample of the P, and the thing is that song still gets BETTER every time I listen to it.
Now im a fair bit closer to completing my mission to get EVERYTHING PUTS have ever put out, cd and viynl, if anyone wants to help me complete my mission, please drop my a line.., i only need a few more titles..and will pay good $$.
"Who could make it tight, We,
First Initial the, P
UTS, Thes One and Double K just Be,
Rippin up a track "
Thats the good sh!t right there, one of my ALL-TIME Fav lines!!!!
i heard "time to rock our sh!t" in a skate part for 411vm, like four years ago. then a year or so ago, while bored one night, i remembered the dopeness of the song and the name people under the stairs and downloaded a few songs.
The first song I heard by PUTS was "The Hang Loose" from a mix CD my friend made for us to breakdance to, but I never knew the artist until I bought OST. The one that caught my interest was "Acid Raindrops," which I got from a friend who was well-informed of underground hiphop. I was hooked since "out on the porch..."
I don't remeber the first track I ever heard, but the first album I got round to buying was OST, when it first came out. I had cut my fingers off (yeah, for real) and was in hospital for a week having tenden surgery and enjoying being off my tits on morphine.
I asked my girl to go and buy me OST on CD so I could listen to it through my headphones while I was stuck in a hospital bed. Needless to say, by the end of the week, I'd've been happy to stay there for another month listening to the P.
I was in love right then, and have been ever since.
It's my one consolation for having a f***ed up hand until the day I die (my scratching sucks...), but I wouldn't take it back for anything.
Long live the P!
in 2002 at uni one of my buddies bought quid control 12" by yoda & PUTS, and then it all started!
Heard em first on Napster (back when it was free) in 2000, after hearing about them on a website. I think the song was Get Drunk Tonight, and its been nothing but love ever since, as I got every album they made
