This is about as miscellaneous as it gets, but I have to say it, now that I thought it:

Can you even imagine a retirement home / "senior community" / old folks home for DJs in the Los Angeles area in 30-50 years? Think about it... all these old dudes with turntables in the common area clubhouse settin' it off every night (well... every EVENING... old dudes gotta get to bed earlier, you know). It would be hilarious to see Thes One, Double K, Young Einstein, Numark, Cut Chemist, etc. entertaining the other senior folk for some New Years or something, and they're all wearing those funny cone hats and got banners up on the walls, with nurses/assistants coming in with food trays and an old broke-*ss piano in the corner.

Anyway, it just made for a hilarious mental image. Hopefully, you'll agree.

Funnily enough there's a song by one of my favorite German groups 'Eins Zwo' where the rapper falls asleep on the studio couch and has a vision/nightmare in which he runs into all his peers doing a live radio show from an old folks home. At first he doesn't even realize how much they've all aged and asks one guy with an afro if grey is now in style because he looks "like a dandelion".

Who knows maybe Cut will convert his barn (as seen on Fuse's Crate Diggers series on youtube) eventually, haha.

I currently have the good fortune of taking a class called "Hip Hop: History, Culture and Aesthetics" at U of O, and it is f---ing AWESOME. Seemed sufficiently miscellaneous.

Side note: Thes gave a guest lecture there a couple years back (http://www.thepointoftherhyme.com/UOlecture.htm) and the Professor recently had DJ Food Stamp in to give a guest lecture as well.

That is fresh as hell man, wish there would have been a class like that for me to take when I was in college! Here is the Thes One lecture that Hydrolyphic posted a while ago... Looks like this is the same class you are in too, DOPE!

BTW - What is the name of your professor?

Yeah, it took me forever to transcribe that lecture, but it was awesome to hear the history that Thes was droppin'

BTW: don't sleep on the next PUTS release: X-Mas Album (just messing around, haha )

While I was trudgin' through the weeds looking for info I can use as citations for the wikipedia project, I found this OLD OLD OLD Question-era freestyle between Thes One, Double K, and Kidd Lexus over the Stearns to Western beat.

It's from a "Culturama Vol. 1" VHS tape (which I saw mentioned on YoYoPo's old archived site... which is how I found this vid).

Sactown this is awesome!! I knew about the Culturama tapes but was never able to get hold of a copy. Everything finds its way onto the net eventually! John Peel session, now this!

Culturama was a series put out over the years by Peter Agoston, to collect 'underground' hip hop videos on compilations, and PUTS featured on a few. I had a whole email correspondance with him years ago when I started this site - he was an early supporter of the guys and I think he gets a shout out on Next Step or QITFOAA?
