the beatles did change there sound. notice there first album compared to Sgt. Peppers. extremely different but also a very good sound. i mean sh!t compare the beatles to PUTS and theyre kinda doing the same thing. redefining there sound to something better. theres nothing wrong with changing your sound. it all depends if your mass fan base likes it or not. sure PUTS could say "f*** that we make the music only for ourselves" well fine but you wont be making music long if your selfish about it cuz you wont be making them dollars. and no dollars means no music making! but the good thing is PUTS aint like that. i mean sh!t Thes One posts on this forum. what other artist(s) does that?

na yo everybody is influenced by something else when they make any kind of art form. if you werent influenced by something what would motivate you to make something? imagine not knowing any kind of music, what would motivate you to make music? so i think it is 100% theirs. cuz i mean its not like premo and pete rock could take some credit for the songs PUTS made cuz they influenced PUTS. thats rediculous.
cuz then you could say well someone influenced premo so essentially they too influenced PUTS. and it can go on and on until you reach like elvis or something stupid.

I really agree with Pierce, maybe Stepfather was supposed - be like a secret title, that meant a step up, hence the title Stepfather.

i dont want to hear the same album over and over by any artist, band or group. so really i think they made a step forward with stepfather. they kept there old sound but made it a little more fresh and new. i think they could be leading up to a new route in hip hop. a route that old hip hop could have taken back in the day. whether they know it or not

Really Stepfather is a step up from the ordinary, Maybe Thes and Double K thought that a little change might be good. Honestly I like only a few tracks from Stepfather, "Flex Off", "Tuxedo Rap", "Jamboree Pt.2", "You".
I used to like "Pass the 40" for a minute especially the end when they sample "Hollywood Shuffle". To show they weren't serious.. But I really enjoy their "Question in the Form of Answer" album and "The Next Step" are my favs.
"Question in the Form of Answer" - the vibe of the album gives a warm feel, a positive outlook, and about what they enjoy, life and fun times.

Especially "Sterns to Western", "We'll Be There", "Earth Travellers", "The Cat" "Give Love a Chance", and "Blowin Wax" theses tracks characterized true hip-hop...
So for Stepfather it's the same thing just a little more serious and morely outspoken.

Innovation means doing what you do well and then just twearking it a little to add components to it. Personally I am not a big fan of Pass the 40, but I am a fan of 99.9% of the rest of the sh!t they doing, being an artist means taking risks and that's exactly what they did and I completly respect that. I don't know how u could think a album like Stepfather isn't classic P, I mean like someone else said LA9X is oen of their best works, and from the very start, sh!t even that intro is better than 99% of rap songs out their.

thes and double really spread their creative wings on this one.

i dont think the album sounds "artificial" or "processed" at all. you have to remember, the p dont f*** with synths, pro tools, etc. what you hear is still straight from old records. this album definetley took a funkier twist than their other albums. less jazz, more funk. that threw people off. doesnt mean that it was a sh!tty album, though. in fact, the amount of originality on the album makes it great.

what's really special about the album is that all the experimentation works. they tried so many new things on this one, and it all sounded great.

la9x is undoubtedly some of the p's best work.

tuxedo rap is MAD FLY. double's 2nd verse is the sh!t. the break is real original, too.

jamboree is genius. double k's verse hilarious and relatable. (pt. 1 makes me smile and laugh like a little bitch whenever i hear the sampled hooks.)

on&on, crown ones, eat street, pumpin....... the whole album is good.

Leks to me 'more than you know' aint 'old P-style' at all. I'd say Flex Off or LA9x would come under that category as I really don't think they've done a track before giving off that kinda vibe and lyrically being that 'deep'..
I just wanna see what Thes & Double come up with next time! and I hope it won't be too long.. Anyone know when Dubs stuff is coming out?

I gotta agree its kind of "deep"..but then again it less mono-tonic than the other tracks, which somewhat reminds me of older albums.

Thats what im critizing in the first place anyway. Its uncolorful, monotonic and it all sounds quite like the same. Unfortunately thats what most Hip Hop LPs today are like..

I hope they get back to their old groove.

Anyway diffrent tastes.

I feel ya Unitt....they aint going Pop your right....I will always have faith in the P. As for 'more than you know'.....I too have got very emotional listening to that track...easydee and SF K....I know just what you mean....it really moves me, as does 'day like these'......god bless the P, they have got me through many bad times and have made my good times even better.

Yo...hehe. Tuxedo Rap has a "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough" sample on there. Not processed at all. And the deep bass kick is not an 808. It's an old school oscillator hit from the early 80's hiphop. Still funky as ever is what I am saying. As far as "Pass the 40", just listen to some of the stuff Thes' says. On Step In..that originial sample is fresh as hell..
And for Pumpin' it's just a non-jazz sample and different drums.

I do see what you are saying but I would fret not. These two aren't going pop, trust that my mellow.
