YoYoPo said:
Sactown - whats the backspin interview, did I miss that one?

It was waaaaay back on 10/13/2009, when Carried Away was debuting... it was a Subsoniq interview on Backspin radio with K Murdock (from Panacea) and KB. I went over to the Subsoniq blog, but it looks like they've dumped all their posts older than 2010 or so, so it doesn't look like it's posted anymore.

I downloaded it a while back, chopped it out into tracks, and pulled out the music (mostly PUTS, but it had Tash's "Liquor Store Run", a Supernatural freestyle from Sway & Tech, and a few other things). It's about 10 or 11 snippets of interview, about 4-6 minutes each, and they talk about recording the album, hippies f***ing (and phish) at bonaroo, cyphers, the Billy Dee Beer single, etc. I should post it up somewheres. Lemme know.

But here's a transcription of the quote I meant... and I had my facts wrong: it was Double, not Thes, that made the comment I was talking about, and he said 60 min, not 70 <img src="https://www.putsonline.co.uk/forum/my-plugins/bb-smilies/pfunk/icon_razz.gif" title=":-P" class="bb_smilies" />

(Thes: ) New album is out TODAY
(KK: ) It's called Carried Away...
(Thes: ) It's our seventh album
(K Murd: ) Congratulations. That's a milestone.
(Thes: ) I mean, really, we don't wanna make a huge deal about, like... the whole idea was... it's like a boxer. You know when a boxer, he lands that punch and the dude gets wobbly? And the ref's trying to get in there to stop the fight? Any good boxer with balls will hit 'em ONE more time.
(KK: ) Oh yeah.
(Thes: ) You know, just to... just to FRONT.
(KB: ) Just to... Finish it off!!
(Thes: ) So this one right here... this is punch after we already hit... 'cause Fun DMC took a minute, and that was like... the hard punch for the fans. This one right here is the "BOOM!" and then grab your balls. (laughter) This is that punch.
(KK: ) Word. Put those gloves up, look at the crowd.

(KB: ) Alright, question about this. And obviously, on the front, you've kinda got a design that shows the "7"... 7 albums deep. I was counting earlier today, and I'm only counting 6. So how... we got "Fun DMC"...
(Thes: ) 'Cause "Or Stay Tuned"... "Or Stay Tuned" was over 60 minutes (***SACTOWN NOTE: It's actually only 44 minutes... but that's full-length in my opinion too***)...
(KK: ) So that's an album.
(Thes: ) So, that counts, technically... you know, according to the reps and the stores and everyone, it's an album. And it sells for album price.
(KB: ) But they called it an EP, though!
(KK: ) We tried to make it an EP, but we can't do anything under 60 minutes for some reason... (laughter)
and they they go on to talking about why they're back on Om for Carried Away... it's an interesting interview.

Personally, I think The Next Step is the rawest, Question is the realest, OST is the "classic"-est (and it's the one I listen to the most), Stay Tuned is like the cool little brother of OST, Stepfather is the freshest (like in a classy way), Fun DMC is the most cohesive and the chillest, Carried Away is the most fun to listen to (sorry, "Fun DMC"), and Highlighter is the most deep & experimental. I love 'em all. Fun DMC has got that summer vibe, so I'm definitely dustin' it off right about now. I listened to Anotha BBQ a few minutes ago on my mix.

I love how Thes was saying in the Backspin Radio interview that they can't seem to do anything under 70 minutes.

Its hard to put down any album in particular.....they're all pretty damn strong. Highlighter is great but I feel it may be the weakest of the bunch....not sure though.....Its really long and could have had a few songs cut IMO to tighten it up. But again, this is my opinion, nothing more......*FUN*

I think it's just PUTS making a joke on "Run DMC", the DMC in that case being the MC Darryl McDaniels. Could be more to it than that, but I'm sure that's the main idea. Inside the CD case, they have a ton of play-on-words stuff involving the word "Fun" too. Peep it when you get the chance.

So I've only really been a true fan of the P for maybe a year, year and a half and so I'm still learning about them. One question I find myself wondering about occasionally is: what does the "DMC" in the album title "Fun DMC" stand for? The main thing I can think of is that the "D" stands for the name of a friend they lost (there is the song "D," after all) and that the "MC" stands for Mike and Chris. So if their friend's name were Doug, the album title expanded would be "Fun Doug, Mike and Chris." So does anyone know the answer to this? Am I close, or completely off-base? This is the best place I can think of to ask, as my independent research hasn't resulted in anything yet. Thanks!

Just as a disclaimer: I haven't listened to every song by People Under the Stairs (yet), nor have I even listened to every song on "Fun DMC," so sorry in advance if I'm asking an obvious/dumb question.
