I've tried ableton, acid, and reason, but fruity loops does it for me. it was the most intuitive and easiest to use.

i got a MPC 2000 xl last year, and it actually taught me how to use fl better.

The "security dongle" fake-out that my version of Cubase 3 uses (I got all this several years back from a homie) doesn't work with my Windows 7 Ultimate though, so it looks like I'm going to have to go legitimate.
