I have a Creative Audigy sound card, and if you get one like their X-Fi series, you can record a "What You Hear" from your computer. So anything that you can play on your computer (like a DVD, if you have a DVD drive) can be recorded. I've recorded several DVDs before (Richard Pryor DVDs, music concerts, etc.), and then chopped them up with music editing software (I use Cubase, but to each his own).

The other route is to buy/download a DVD ripper that allows you to extract the audio seperately, and then use a music editing program or mp3 splitter.
