No need for apologies! When stuff is out of your hands there's nothing you can do about it. It's a shame, but the LP was missing a couple of tracks anyway so I always considered the CD to be the 'proper' release.

I just think the art of cutting decent records is slowing dying. There is a limit on the length/volume of material you can fit onto one side purely because it is a physical medium, but on the other hand this problem doesn't seem to happen with older records. I mean side B of Bitches Brew is 27 minutes long, and although quiet sounds damn good throughout.

Yeah, I apologize for this.

I was supposed to press up the vinyl myself but I got swamped doing everything else, and in some ways the label was even dumping extra sh!t on my lap. The original deal we had with Gold Dust was for them not to do the vinyl, but when i got saddled with the production, the mixing, the artwork, etc - something had to give. Not enough hours int he day. So at the last minute it was either not do vinyl or let Gold Dust handle it. I passed it off to them assuming it would be fine, but my standards and your standards are different than those of people working at labels, understandably.

I never got test pressing to approve the vinyl and they just went forward with it without me hearing it, and honestly, I still don't have a copy of it. I saw it in New York and was immediately upset at the card stock weight of the outer cover, it looks cheap and is paper thin. I'm sure the mastering engineer who cut the vinyl f***ed the mix off, and with no one to answer to, they just went forward with it. If the last songs are distorting on any side, typically in the upper highs, it
s because it was cut to loud and the program was too long.

When you cut a record, the angle of the groove, or the circle the groove makes gets tighter and tighter as the needle gets closer to the center. This causes the distortion if it is cut at a loud level, whch he probably id because many mastering engineers equate loud with good. Which also means he might of compressed the sh!t out of it.

At the end of the day, the CD ahs the comic in it and was my main focus - i apologize for losing track of the chain of quality on the vinyl. I need an assistant bad. There really aren't enough hours in the day, but i'll make sure this doesn't happen again.

hmmm this doesn't really sound like a mix issue but a pressing one, because it only affects the last track on sides B and D. Otherwise it sounds tight. Might have to just stick to the CD with this one which is a shame. Still nice to have it in the collection though.

I posted in the fun dmc vinyl thread, but it's gone kinda dead, so I'm posting here again....

I got the vinyl for Christmas, and I don't know if I got a dodgy copy or what, but the sound quality ain't amazing. The last tracks on side B and D have really noticeable distortion on the vocals. Has anyone else noticed this???

It just sounds like IGD, but I know it isn't my turntable or cartridge, because I don't have this problem with any other records, and I'm using a fairly new and well respected cart. Maybe a coupleof plays through will sort this problem out.

The music is fire obviously though.
