My collection is organized in a similar way. I have my records sorted by affiliation of artists/groups/solos & side projects of group members/labels/etc. I also sort by geography meaning all of my records from the west like the P, J5, Dilated, Madlib/Stones Throw are on the same level of the shelf. My stuff from NY is even broken down roughly into boroughs: Main Source, Large Pro, Nas, AZ, Mobb Deep, Akinyele for Queens and so on.
One of the fun aspects of this is that I'll reorganize from time to time and as I keep learning. As a matter of fact I'm in the middle of that once again right now...

pretty much the most unimaginitive here, i got oldest to newest with the occasional artists who appear more than once put together. i try to hide the oldest part on bottom shelf tho... lol.

My records are broken down into categories - hip hop, jazz (all kinds), funk/soul/R&B, electronica/dance, rock/folk/pop/anything else, soundtracks, comilations.

Yo EarthTraveler, took me like 5 or 6 years, but i definitely accumulated like 75% of it in the past 2. I really don't wanna ever think about how many dollars ive spent...
another crate i have is my guilty pleasures crate: it's got my A&M Herb Alpert stuff, along with my Dionne Warwick collection

a fire crate is a crate of your best and/or rarest tunes that in case of a fire will be the first thing you grab...
