I only have the first two and they are indeed tight. Gonna have to pick up vol 3 for that track. Thanks duke!
I think that, of the three, the second one is my absolute favorite (the two Bobby Byrd tracks and "Blow Your Head" are damn near hard as f*** to beat), but the third one has some major dopeness on it... to name a few:
-"Blow Your Head" with no synth overdubs (just the band jamming)
-"Who Knows?" by Beau Dollar and "There Was A Time" by Dee Felice Trio (two awesome instrumentals)
-the "Original Rock Version" of "Talking Loud and Saying Nothing" ("How ya like me now?").
-"Doing the Do" - another Bobby track...

hooo it's bad.

In case no one's ever heard of this sort of thing happening before: one of the tracks the JBs did was "Soul Power '74" (an instrumental re-working of James Brown's track)... well, the Average White Band put out a hit track called "Pick Up The Pieces" shortly afterward, and the JB's looked upon it as a total rip-off (especially since the AWB's track was such a hit), and they were pissed... so they released a super souped-up track called "Pick Up The Pieces One By One" in 1975 and called themselves the Above Average Black Band (or A.A.B.B.) with strings and everything.

Really?!? Can't say I can really hear a huge similarity between Soul Power and Pick Up the Pieces. At least not enopugh of a similarity to cause a beef...
That's what I thought too, that's why I was so blown away when I heard the story. If I remember correctly, I got that story from the liner notes of The CD for James Brown's Funky People Part 3 (compilation of People records tracks... My fav tune is definitely "let off a few", tiny song (1:43) on street level. Such a dope beat... <img src="https://www.putsonline.co.uk/forum/my-plugins/bb-smilies/pfunk/icon_eek.gif" title="8-O" class="bb_smilies" />

"Let Off A Couple" you mean? Classic sample. Same tune as "Hit Me With That" and Apache's "Gangsta Bitch".

If you don't own the LP that tune comes from, get digging right now.

Better yet, see if you can pick up a copy of Mithai...
