The only thing that bothers me is what you called the "packaged electro-garbage." I couldnt have said it better myself.

When I listen to some music on the radio these days, I honestly can't distinguish between some of it. All of it blends together into this white noise that is completely devoid of soul!

You cant compare some of the things on the radio nowadays to PUTS (or a bunch of other top notch artists). It is really like comparing apples to oranges. They are both fruits, but they cater to different audiences. One is a 'radio song' or 'club banger' and the other...well the other is just plain funky and raw.

Now don't get me wrong, "Tonight's Gonna be a Good Night" is catchy, and you might even catch it on my ipod once in a while, but in 30 years, when i'm with my grandkid pullin out records, i'm gonna pull out PUTS and show him where the soul is.

Real music, art, honest expression, soul.

A-MEN. A lot of MCs with talent get hit with tracks that are all about the 808s. Its almost hip-house music with the repetitive electronic beats that some of these artists nowadays are rapping over.

I don't know why they are attracted to those tracks. Maybe because they are catchy and easy to play on the radio?

I can't speak for everyone, but to me, music comes first. Music is art, music is expression. It's really sad to see that artists must conform their art to please the masses, instead of honestly expressing themselves and creating true art.

I don't know much...but when someone plays "Lil' Wayne - A Milli" and then I play "PUTS - The Suite For Beaver Part 1," I cant even begin to compare those two tracks. They are from two different planets. One has so much SOUL. There is no other word to describe it. Pure SOUL. It's almost as if you can tell that the PUTS were honestly expressing themselves.

Sorry for the random rant, lmao.

P.S. Common Sense is the sh!t. Anyone who disagrees, please direct yourself to some speakers, and the album "Resurrection"

P.P.S Be is awesome as well.

I know it's been said before in this thread but...

Common with Be. I dunno, but something tells me that he's that "one rapper" that people at Starbucks on their laptops dig. I got love for him, but I didn't think "Be" was the classic album people made it out to be. Plus, statements like "I usually hate rap, but Common is awesome!" take the wind outta my sails.

But on the whole, I love Common.

I feel this way about a lot of artists. I'm more of an organic hip-hop listener. That's why I'm so crazy about the P. I like jazz, rock, etc. samples that actually used instrumentation... Most important to me personally is the way the drum track sounds. If it sounds like tick-tick-thump or ultra-electronic, I want to be rid of it immediately, and sometimes I hear really good MCs wasting all their rhymes over tracks that eat sh*t. And it's sad.

I feel pretty much everything he's ever done - have any of ya'll copped the Insight Remixes album - thats real good to hear some of his classics over raw Insight beats.

Not feeling what I've heard of that new album though.

To be honest, anything involving those poppy Neptunes beats just doesn't season my steak.

Lyrically he's always excellent but I gotta say I think he sometimes picks the wrong beat. Love his raw old boom-bap stuff and the jazzier tracks, the stuff with J. Rawls, the track with Thes is a bonafide classic in my opinion, so is braggin writes etc etc.... but I wasn't feeling the most recent stuff as much, beatwise. I'll still check everything he does though, he's still a million times better than most of the stuff that drops these days.

I gotta disagree with you there man. I think J-Live has been extremely consistent. Then What Happened was one of my favorite albums from last year. I think he's still going strong.
