i usually just normalize the sample if it's not recorded loud enough. Then it goes through a effect chain that kinda looks like:
1) equalizer, to bring out the frequencies i want to freak with number 2.
2) filter. Type depends wether it's low rumble or high hiss. But to be honest, i like my stuff grimey most of the time.
3)equalizer to make it sound how i want.

and when it comes to the ladies... Double K spits truth on Fly Love Song. "you gotta combine both of the two."

Oh, hell yeah... if I'd had a choice, it would've been ladies all the time... I just lacked confidence in college, and it's a minor regret. My college self sorta reminds me of Thes' "Trippin' At The Disco" verse... just glad my dad didn't kill me I got play, but not nearly enough. You know, there was the token redhead, the token asian chick, the token bookwork...

I'm cool with who I ended up with though, big time.

I had too much free time in college, and I never was one to be out all night with the ladies, so I'd play some sh*t into my digital Roland and record it with my computer, then I'd bust out some singing on my audio technica mic, and then I'd put crazy effects on it and all that. During that time, I f***ed with all the settings I could find... delay, bitcrushers, eq, and all of that. it's sorta fun... if you have the hours of lonely nights and the drive to do so.

If I'm bullshitting someone let me know, this is just what I've experienced.

Usually what I do with LPs is record them into Cubase, and when I'm recording, I let the record play past the songs a little bit so I can get some "blank space" with the background noise/hiss. Then I switch over to a program that can take that blank space and make a reduction imprint that gets subtracted from the entire track. Then I switch back into Cubase, use a limiter to limit the highest peaks JUST A BIT (I don't like to go overboard, or I kill the dynamics of the song), then I normalize the whole thing, so the song is uniformly loud with a minimum of background noise and still dynamic.

I tried to figure all this out by myself, so knowing my luck, I'm way off.

Normalizing usually brings out the fuller ranges more, so much that if the hiss isn't gone, it's barely noticeable.

If I'm bullshitting someone let me know, this is just what I've experienced.

When that organ sample comes in after the intro in "Check The Vibe", there is a little bit of a muted popping in the background that sounds a lot like crackle/noise reduction (at least, the filters that I've used before on my computer have produced sounds like that) from a heavily scratched-up record.

That made me want to ask everyone: What programs/filters/etc. have you all used to get rid of background noise, rumble, hiss, crackle, etc.?? Or do you stick to EQ and cutting out certain freqs?
