i try n put that into everything i do (even if the A**hole infront did cut you up with no indicators or regard for your saftey ) but i guess hip-hops like that, a feeling more than a pasttime? its a way of acting and sh!t. If theres one thing ive learnt tho, is that the hip-hop charts in the UK are whack, apart from jay-z (IMO) there aint much real hip-hop out there. maybe i should complain next time i see sum sh!t being called hip-hop being flaunted on t.v.

i like this thread anyways, good to hear all peoples opinions on this, prehaps 4 pillars was the wrong title 4 this so heres some vids of a beatboxer from round my way, Fozzy, hes pretty good. does more drum n bass tho, check out his version of dead prez- bigger than hip-hop at the end.

I was set to write a ton and preach it again, but after thinking about it...

...dude, I shouldn't even touch this one, haha.

Only thing I'll say: I think all the stuff that's come up in hip hop has SOME place there (4 elements, keeing it computer-free, being on the "positive tip", bringing cats knowledge, making it "scientifical" or "mathematical", street knowledge, etc.), but I would never want to define any of that as even being a major part of hip hop.

It's just... what it is...

On this one i disagree with thes, i think there is a place for the 4 elements chat. It's part of hip hop's history, it's like a style-ised type thing. I mean, it doesn't matter a god damn if you can't dj, mc, break, or wield a spray can, you've got as much right to be hip hop as anyone else, and if that's what Thes is saying then, yeah, I agree. But if he's saying there's no place for the 4 elements idea, i think he's wrong, because it's part of the culture for sure, it's been part of the culture for a long time too, it's just a historical fact. I mean it's not the 4 elements fault it's been appropriated by disney and macdonalds and all that sh!t. And i don't really get that he feels that PUTS is excluded by the idea of four elements...

Hmmm maybe it's time for a new four elements,

Knowledge, Unity, Peace, Progression...

And Mambo, don't let anyone dictate to you what hip hop means, hip hop is an internal identity, you decide what it means and you decide how to use it.
