Besst tip i can give is, Practice, Practice, Practice. Especially using a hands on machine like the MPC. Try doing a drum beat with a few pads n keep that goin untill u feel well comfortable n are ghetting most hits acurate, then add in something else into the rhythm n keep on it untill u feel comfortable with it b4 adding in something else. Just break the pads down, once u are using a few pads/keys its alot easier to find space for more. If that makes any sense. :-?

But the likes of software sequencers, its all about just messing with knobs n buttons n finding out what they do, youl come across things that youv heard in songs b4 n be like yea i now know that.
Cause like someone could sit n tell u absolutly everything they know n it might mean anything to u but when u move the knob youl be like..Ahhh.

Also check out tutorials on youtube ect

Well if you have beats in your head and have a steady rhythm (something I lack) the MPC , well at least the Akai that my roomie has is not that hard, its Reason that is killing me =\ My boyfriend completely taught him self how to use fruity loops without help then learned Reason on his own in a few days, even though the program is overwhelmed with stuff, at least the general idea is there. It is a lot of stuff! I definitely give more credit after experiencing it first hand.

Beatmakers always amaze me. I never get how someone can learn something like the MPC on their own.

Always been my issue too...not just in music, but art too... you guys should see the art gallery in my head... makes the louvre look like a kindergarten finger-painting revue.

But give me a brush, and the best I can do with it is paint a few coats on a wall in a room.

I always have beats in my head but they can never come out onto the machine it sucks!

That's the key isn't it? Transferring mental energy into physical form... the tricky part...

lol well since i am not really talented anywhere else, being a computer nerd is my calling! I have cracked fruity loops and adobe cs4 (am buying the real one soon though) and now this. It took a lot of trial and error, but it was nice to help them out and show them how to sample and what not, i just don't know how to use Reason even though i am curious.
