I picked up George Benson's Breezin on the same day. I'd always avoided that album because it was the beginning of cheesy Benson. I remember saying that to the guy who ran the shop and he said, "Yeah, but this is good cheesy Benson". Dude was totally right, it's actually one of my favourite Benson LPs and a definite summer classic for me.

I'll have to check out Breezin', but yeah, I got the deluxe edition of Inspiration Info on CD, and it is completely summertime chill mode. I remember that the Digable Planets sampled his "Island Letter" for their "For Corners" track, which is a good summer beat in itself. Shuggie's other stuff (Strawberry Letter 23, etc.) is all good too.

+1 for Low Rider. Still makes me think of Up In Smoke though. That's a good summer movie... "Whatever you do, don't say nothing about his birthmark, because he flips out!"

For some reason, the part in Sly's "Hot Fun in the Summertime" when they go into the second verse is one of the tightest pieces of music ever. They are all repeating "Hot fuuun in the sum-mah-tiiiiime!" over and over again, and then all the musicians and the horns and everything just jump right back on that verse line... And the hairs on the back of my neck stand up... +1 for summer, y'all.
