On one hand it's got a lot of the typical single qualities (incl. the dope + exclusive B-Side remix), on the other it wasn't really a widespread release (because the peak era of 12"s was already ~10 years past at the point it was released).

(I've kind of outgrown these type of random FANtasies as most of them tend to be quite unrealistic/contrived and the real world dynamics/creative chemistry would probably never work. Thanks haha. And the Step Bacc/Wiz was the first digital-only release if I remember correctly and don't think we've had a physical single release since, unfortunately as they always came with some great extra B-sides and artwork jokes...

I received my package from Thes today (perk of being in LA when PL70 merch drops). I was lucky enough to get one of the test pressings and if it wasn't obvious already, the country of origin says CZ. The VMP is pretty sweet too. Nice bio on the gatefold. Gonna enjoy a full listen of OST this evening.

Meant to bring this up before: I've found myself wondering whether the reissue might have been received/perceived a bit differently (by everyone, myself included) if the news about it hadn't been leaked prematurely..?

In any event I believe it was somewhat less than ideal that VMP were unable to protect their digital mockups from being discovered by random redditors/members of the N&G forums, had to subsequently rush their official announcement and Thes was effectively (intentionally?) relegated to cleanup hitter, posting his/the P's official "reveal" several days after the proverbial cat was out of the bag.

In a perfect world everyone should have published the information at the same exact time (including the fact that there would be 2 different variants/price points). That way there wouldn't have been (as many) different interpretations of who was/is responsible for making this happen, should be credited with certain contributions or made final decisions.

I'd hesitate to say the standard/retail reissue is "cheap". It's fairly/reasonably priced. It might seem cheap by comparison as record prices on average have been skyrocketing in recent years. (And while some of this is the result of regular inflation, a lot of it is also due to increasingly "luxurious"/gimmicky releases, people charging premiums for "exclusives" [e.g. the colored variant] and the familiar industry tendency to try and maximize profits; ironically the very same things that led to the demise of physical media in the past...)

Have amazon finally figured out how to properly ship records BTW? Last I heard they were still using oversized cartons and customers receiving damaged sleeves and/or records was pretty much par for the course. Sure, you might be able to get a refund or exchange, but personally I'd rather go with more reliable specialized record vendors.

It's better/funnier than I remembered. Double K steals the show with his facial expressions and the MTV Cribs line IMO. Bonus points for the borrowed cinema design elements, too.
(Yet and still, the stereotypical depictions probably aren't entirely PC... "No more negative Muslim images.")

Doubly surprising that this came out 6+ years after Part 1 then; and not on the album(s) directly following OST either. Might have made sense to include it on the Stepfather DVD in terms of a similar (multi)media experience..?

Increasingly unsure about this as well now, just having seen Thes IG story about how he won't be getting further copies of the record "till next year".
Perhaps they are pressing additional copies/another (identical) run before the end of the year (after all)..?
(No idea how VMP generally roll with their "re-stocks", swaps, replacements etc. - I assumed since they probably press thousands of copies to begin with, they intentionally set aside a certain contingent/batch for said purposes from the get-go.)

If so, this shines a slightly different light on the "limited" nature of the re-release. We were never told any numbers on how "limited" either variant was supposed to be. In a sense every record, sneaker, product is produced in finite quantities and with the advent of everyone now marketing their products as "limited" to make them seem more special/desirable the term is being used very *cough* loosely (and can apply to anything from 5, to 10, 300, 500, to 10.000 copies; especially if the quantity/supply is still < than the projected demand)...

Personally I don't see anything wrong with keeping the record "in print" (for now or in perpetuity) - I' not entirely convinced it ought to be promoted in quite the same way then though. No need for the whole "limited" spiel and catering to FOMO (fear of missing out) culture then.
I kinda feel too many people nowadays are (suddenly) buying records mainly for strange/other reasons: bragging rights, novelty value, as (instant) "collectibles"/"investments", because it's trendy, etc. - it doesn't even appear to necessarily be about playing/listening to the music anymore (which is more convenient - certainly cheaper/more widely available - by using other media; CDs, digital, streaming).
