Everywhere I've looked they are sold out of these... so they must be pretty good.
Will keep a look out for them!

If anyone knows of anymore "battle records" with musical tones post 'em up!

These guys make a series called "the utility phonograph record"
3 or 4 installments of the series so far picked up doubles of #3 the other day and it's pretty tight for more musical based selections for scratching/production
Can't wait to check out the rest!

Does anyone know any good battle breaks with long electric guitar tones on, locked grooves would be cool?
Like what Kentaro uses?

Or any kind of long tones like trumpets, strings etc?

Yeah I've got some good DJ Rectangle vinyl "I'm gonna kick yo ass for biting my sh!t" haha.
And some nice Cutmaster Swift vinyl.
All about getting doubles to learn juggling.

When I started mixing, it was with records from Goodwill or Mr. Rogers from my bros. As i progressed to scratching, I started with Dj Rectangle battlewax. Most if not all of his scratch tools are a good combination of Beats to match n' juggle or quotes to scratch. Goodluck

The sound keeps repeating so if the needle jumps you will still be on the sample as opposed to a record with different sounds one after each other where if it jumps off fresh you might end up on a completely different sample.
Some battle records are cut so if the needle jumps to the next groove the fresh sample will be in exactly the same place like...

Groove 1. Fresh Fresh Fresh Fresh Fresh Fresh
Groove 2. Fresh Fresh Fresh Fresh Fresh Fresh
Groove 3. Fresh Fresh Fresh Fresh Fresh Fresh

Etc.

Also so you can quickly find the sample you can just drop the needle (gently) in the Fresh section and quickly get a sample to scratch.

Some battle records have locked grooves where a continuous tone like beeeeeeeeeeeeeeep will go on forever which is very useful

The Beep is probably there to indicate the start of that set of samples but can also be scratched, just with very small tight movements.

Or does it go Beep Fresh Aaaah Beep Fresh Aaaah Beep Fresh Aaaah etc?
Thats just so you can scratch along to a tune but use different samples quickly like B B eep eep Beep Fr Fr eeeesh Aaaa Aaaa Aaaah ah and then pull it back to the beep or whatever you're feeling.
Or so you've got lots of samples so can find one quickly.

If you dont want to get the beep when you pull the record back then use a sticker on the centre label just coming onto the non-musical grooves (As long as its not a lock groove) to indicate where the fresh sample starts.
But you need to watch how many times the record goes round and pull it back the same amount back to the label i.e the start of the Fresh sample.
It'll take a bit of pratice but you'll get it.

Stickers are a DJs friend, whether for marking up the first drum beat or a sample or using them to tighten up the hole in the record because it moves and causes skipage. The more you scratch on a record the more familiar you will be with it and the better you will be at manipulating it.

Hello, I am new to DJ mixing and scratching. I have played guitar, and sax for many many years, so I've got some good music background and a pretty extensive vinyl collection, however, I have a question about a recently purchased battle record. Its one of Qbert's, "Super Seal"...if you are familiar with this type of record, you may be able to help me.....anyways - it has great samples on it, the "ahhhh" "fresh" and you know all the classic samples, however, i noticed they just repeat over and over and over for about a minute or minute half. PLUS before the sample there is usually a beep sound, so when I bring the record back a lot of the times I hit that beep sound at the very beginning of the sample. Why do they set up these "Battle" records like this??? Thanks for explaining!!
