Indeed Sactown. You've got super off kilter drums like flying lotus, then you've just got plain dope swing like Dilla. I never quantize when doing drums, but that doesn't mean to say it sounds super off, it's just like how a real drummer wil play... some hits will be harder than others, getting the velocity right is important too. Sometimes I'll spend hours just on drums. Some beats sound right completely on time, but it'll sound too 'rigid' with full quantize/no swing at all. But it definitely depends on the beat.

Part of me likes hearing off beats (no quantize), off vocals (no autotune), and other impurities, because it gives the tracks flavor. BUT it can be good sometimes.

It's just like sugary foods: it won't kill ya if it's done in moderation, but you're gonna make me puke if you give me too much, hahaha.

Nonetheless, Skate's tearing it up. Big ups, man.

Yea boombip, basically. Like if you record something with quantize/swing on in an mpc it'll place your hits right on time. Or if you hit your drums slightly off, you push them in logic, say.

@Skate603 Always down to give constructive/honest feedback bro.

To Frantiq: Props for that mix, I enjoyed it quite a bit.
To Armas: Thanks man, I use ACID Music Studio.
To SF Knight: Well my first few were about a year and a half ago, and I was really into making beats for a couple months, then I stopped doing it often and just made the occasional mix/beat for a while. It's just this past month or so that I've been really into it again. I plan on naming them when I put out the actual "album". And to be honest I have absolutely no idea what quantizing is, so could you give me a bit of a newb producers vocab lesson haha? I do appreciate the criticism from you experienced guys; it helps alot.

Easy Skate603, how long you been making beats for dude? Just some constructive criticism/feedback.... You've definitely got some clashing/off key notes in there that need fixing. Try naming the beats too, so people get an idea/feeling/vision etc.. You got some interesting, abstract sounds going on in there. Try doing the drums with no quantizing, to give them more swing.

Peace

Got some new stuff cooking up right now (been a while). And funny you should say I happen to be at home on a Saturday night (got a shoot early tomorrow) and I've been messing around with my new scratch mixer:
http://soundcloud.com/mrfrantiq/new-mixer-scratch-session-just
Just messing around but some good cuts in there!
