i definitely was ranting a bit. i obviously would prefer diplomacy over violence in any situation. i just think taking down the corporations and financial institutions that have literally been this country for the past century is going to be tougher than a handful of sit-ins.

While i agree that that girl really does go a bit over the top, i cant say im for violent protest, i want change, and how the system is currently setup i dont think its fair at all, but violent protest can only end badly and give goverments a reason for clamping down on these protests. Is there any way these protesters could waste time and police resoources by putting in complaints etc?

Also, what do you mean by "the weather underground" ?

Not to re-ignite some political sh*t that should probably stay out of the forum, but I guess a bunch of students got pepper sprayed by some police at UCD not more than a few blocks from where I live, and the police response (by some accounts) was way beyond necessary.

I guess that some of the protesters were there because they were upset at the tuition hikes (8-9%, I think), and others were there as part of the Occupy protests. Well, some of the Occupiers brought tents with them, which UCD Admin said was a no-no (assemble all night, but no dwellings). Most people cleared their tents out, but a few didn't, so when the police showed up to arrest JUST THOSE people, they linked arms and sat peacefully with everyone else... so basically, DPD sprayed them all first and then sorted them out later.

Supposedly, there was a court case that stated pepper spray is considered excessive force in cases of peaceful protest. With that many PD around, it seems like they could've just unlinked the kids and taken the guilty ones instead of spraying everyone like that. And it all sorta happened in slow motion. Did i hear Kanye West turned up to "show his support" ??? PUBLICITY STUNT! That man works for the 1% and i dont see him giving away large sums of money to support anyone (well apart from the ammount to recieve tax breaks and look good).

Like i said, not really getting much info on it here in the UK apart from the usual places.

I think rap music and music in general is an important tool right now and more rappers should be getting involved, its a way of spreading the message to a wider audience and prehaps making individuals start to feel part of a collective group which can do something about the current state of affairs.

I am surprised I haven't seen this on the forums and if there is already a post on here with the same subject matter than I apologize. I went to an Immortal Technique concert last night and he was really pushing support for this movement. He also had a song on his newest mixtape titled "Rich Man's World (1%)." Talib Kweli was on a newshow advocating his support in New York. Has anyone else seen any rappers voicing their opinion, positive or negative? Granted the two artists above have more of a socially conscious focus, but there has to some hip hoppers who have mentioned this! I know it is a politically sensitive subject and I don't think anybody wants to this to turn into a debate, but I was just wondering if anyone has seen or read of any other artists who had a say on this issue. Again, if this turns into somesort of poltical mudslinging, I apolgize in advance, I hope that won't be the case.
