eso, dope post! I am heading to the show in Burlington in a few days. When I heard in early november that The P was coming to VT I was stoked! Being a fan of The P and living in the Northeast it has been tough to get out to one of their shows. This will be my first PUTS show (I unfortunately missed the P while I spent time in San Diego during the summer of 2010). I have been a long time fan, nothing like smooth beats and great samples. Can't wait for the show and will definitely post my experience. “Time to rock our sh!t!”

Ol' School Lover said:
I got a question for ya. Could I do a New York City version review of the show? Did you ask PUTS anything about any upcoming projects?

I'd love to see more reviews on their shows, to see if the setlist changes, different crowd reactions, etc. Post one up! I didn't ask them about any projects. Although I want to say I heard Double K say at the end of the show that they have a new album coming soon. Could be my mind playing tricks on me. I don't know.

As for approaching them, the way I do it is simply to say dope show and thank you. I give the old hand shake/dap/go in for the half hug and keep it moving. Of course, if you buy something that buys you some quick conversation time while they autograph or find your size. Unless you got Sactown cool points, you might not be received too well with the 20 Questions. You have to keep in mind there are a lot of fans trying to get to them as well, so I kind of respect their time. Definitely wait your turn and don't be that guy bum rushing the table on some "yo, I got this blunt, let's fire it up" guy.

It was a 17+ older show. She wouldn't have gotten in. She likes to clown and say "putts" instead of "PUTS" so I wanted to ask Thes to "school" her on the name but didn't want to occupy his time with that as there were a lot of people by merch table.
Thanks! It was a good show. My wife really wanted to see me wild out since I always tell her I get down at their shows. I was contemplating not going since it was on a "school" night and us grown folks have jobs to go to.

Could I do a New York City version review of the show? Also I wanted to ask Thes and KK about the song July 3rd, KK solo album, and Thes One's instrumental album and Music to Board: the next volume in the series that Thes is making. That would be interesting. Did you ask PUTS anything about any upcoming projects?

Anyone on the boards can do a show review. Personally, reviews/tour pics/tour videos are my bread and butter on the boards. I love hearing you guys talk about the shows ('specially eso's killer review above!), so definitely throw one up.

As far as asking the homies about things, I know that they are up for talking about anything; they love to chat with fans. If you hear anything dope, pass it on to the boards!

One recommendation, though: the way you approach PUTS matters. I've met 'em four times, and even though the most recent three times were dope, the first time was a bust. I saw them at an SF DJ set, and I'd actually tried to approach Thes as a star-struck fan, and I can tell you that he was a little more guarded. I'm guessing that it's just a fact of fame that you'll be more put off by people in your face going WOWYOU'RETHESH!TGIMMEANAUTOGRAPH!! (fine ladies are a big exception, though, haha... lovely ladies can get away with anything.)

The second time I saw them was in Sac, and boombip smoked out Double, so we chatted him up during that whole thing (that's when he gave us the extended "hash at the Great Wall" story... so funny). That was fly. The last two times, I did those interviews for my lyrics site (link at the top of the page) and got them to open up; they like talking about their career & Thes likes talking about music production.

So yeah, just relax and shoot the sh!t; more fun for everyone involved.

Thanks for the suggestion and encouragement. I will definitely put up a review after the show is over. Especially since PUTS has a different take on New Yorker fans. Not like we hold a sense of entitlement its just there are too many mainstream hip hop listeners here. So they are suprised there are fans of their caliber. But anyway you are right I will be a bit more relaxed and chill. I just had so many questions about their music that i find particularly interesting that Thes could acess. I dont want to act like a wierd Justin Bieber fan. I will check out your lyrics site(I probably did, but I want to just to make sure). I wanna ask them to play Outrun man. I havent heard that song played live in a while.

Good to hear that one of the two opening acts was alright. Of the 3 PUTS shows I've seen, I haven't had a single opener that was memorable, but none of them sounded as bad as the second dude you heard, haha. Poser!!

Never saw that shirt before... is that Stepfather-era? Sh!t's dope!

Glad you got a hat, man!! My face-to-face experiences with PUTS have been the same: if you show some indications of being a true, longtime fan (but don't bowl them over with the jabber), then Thes is willing to show his appreciation. I'm not trying to tie Thes to any give-away guarantees here, haha, but anyone with a pair of eyes in their head can see how PUTS is all about the fans, and your merch table experience (and Thes' memory of your meeting... wow!) only convinces me of it more.

Awesome set! Sorta jealous that you got the Creepshow treatment. Some people here on the boards aren't fans of that track, but I love it. And I have to agree that Time To Rock Our Sh!t live is a voice-destroyer. I sounded like sandpaper the next day after the last Oakland show, and I think it was because of that song (or LA9X... one of the two).

We have yet to miss celebrating a New Years together in the last 15 yrs of dating, and I don't plan on starting now. So the question in the form of an answer is: Who do I love more!? Basically the ONE night that I can't sneak away solo.

D*MN! I'm sorry, SLC. That sucks!! My wife isn't a fan of hip-hop/PUTS either... she knows a few of the songs, though, and has said that she'd come to a show with me sometime.
