after mentioning Medeski, Martin & Wood in the Jazz Thread, i wondered if any of you beat-maker types may have slept on the 3 live drums breaks records Billy Martin put out a few years back as Illy B Eats...? (Vol. 3 isn't on Discogs for some reason)

dude is a f***ing monster:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1H6KY8-mL4

anyone is free to use them how they will, and Illy B has put out 2 compilations of tracks (neither of which are on Discogs as well?) submitted to him made from these drums.

just thought i'd give y'all a head's up in case you missed this. (ahem, Thes) ;)

Even though I'm not a beat crafter (forgive my naïveté), the boards have been quiet lately, so I wanted to see if I can start a discussion...

Talk about your experience beatmaking, or if you're like me & don't do it, where do you think you'd start?

Possible areas of conversation (but feel free to expand to whatever):
• What instruments/sounds do you gravitate towards with samples?
• Use any specific filtering techniques?
• Are you willing to over-loud/clip your drum tracks ("loudness war"-style) to give them a heavier edge?
• Any specific track or style that you've always wanted to see made into a beat?
__________________

For instance, I've noticed that I can listen to muted horn lines for days, but the brassier that they get, the harder it is for me to listen to them for an extended period. Maybe it's the Nujabes lover in me, but a strong piano lines adds tons of dynamic to spice things up.

I know it's ridiculous, but I've always wanted to see someone try to flip "Linus & Lucy" (the Peanuts theme), even if it was just a joke.

Anyone else?
