yeah i had a fantastic time there. After the show a friend and i hung around and talked to some of the performers, and thes and double k autographed our albums and talked to us for a bit, which was really cool of them. We also talked to double k's dad and uncle for a bit too, they were awesome and a little tipsy which was great.

I also saw them at the double door back in december, but this show was better since it didn't snow 5 feet of snow like it did before and more people made it out. Hopefully they come out again soon so we can catch another show

May 11, 2006

Me and my homeboy (we are emesbe - medina and ves120) head out to Subterranean to see People Under The Stairs. Not North Side natives, we get a little turned around after exiting off Fullerton from Lake Shore Drive. We get our bearings straight and luck up on a parking spot right near the venue. Walk in hit the bar and chill until the doors open. We spot an old friend named Dre and all stick together.

Once inside, I hit the merch table and see Psalm One and Shawn Jackson working their hustles. I was dissappointed because I wanted a "I Pump PUTS" shirt but they didn't have XXL (I'm not a little dude).

The show starts with Chicago emcee by way of Evanston, Longshot. I am a fan of Longhot. His hustle is one to follow. His command of the mic and breath control is one I study for my shows. Dude is colder than a motherfucker. If you are from Chicago, you know that is a massive compliment. He did some songs from his Molemen produced album, Sacrifice, and his own Civil War mixtape. If Longshot is rocking a set, you are in for a treat.

Shawn Jackson is next. I never heard him before. The first song he did involved the audience saying "Ay!" during the chorus. Us three decided to have fun and started doing "The Fonz" when the chorus came around. Pointing our jacket collars up, pointing at eachother. The songs he did were dope and dude can rock it for sure.

The next act was Time Machine. When we first saw them come on stage, I thought "Something ain't right with them" And I was right, them dudes are a bit to the left of center. But in a good way. I will say they are the most non rhythmic corrdinated dance steppers I have ever seen. It was fun to watch. I never saw "underground" emcees incorporate dance steps throughout their set like they did. They get props for that. Their set was live too! I became a fan of them after watching them rock. The part of the set when Mekalek was manipulating the turntable to make the beat was the highlight of the show.

Psalm One came out. I must confess, I have this weird crush on her. Maybe it's the thighs, because she has gotten a bit thicker in that area over the years. Maybe it's the lips. I was a little dissapointed in her set, partly because she's a hometown product. Her set consisted of songs that were too midtempo to slow. Nothing she performed would be considered a "banger" That's just me. Her set was still dope though (hometown advantage). She did kill it with the rapid fire rapping on some songs.

Finally, the P came on stage to the intro of Stepfather. Double K brought his father on stage (he's from/lives in Chicago). Double K is a spitting image of his dad. Then "Step In" came on we went f***ing berserk. When I first got the album, I was stuck on that track and had to replay it atleast 5 times before I contied with the album. "Step In" blended into "Pass The 40"

At this point, I am enjoying the show too much to remember the ordering of songs, so I'll provide descriptions as I remember them.

"Yield" - from past shows I know that once Thes starts shouting "Party people...HO!" I know this song is next. It got so loud in there than when the beat dropped and everyone started jumping, I thought the floor was going to crumble and I'd fall to my death.

"LA Song" - Another crowd pleaser. Had all the Chicago residents requesting temporary LA ID's by shouting "ugh...LA...Californ-I-A"

"SF Knights" - Thes had the "laser" going for this one. Turned all the lights off and he brought out is "good hair" and purple scarf (The Prince get up). He lead us in singing the original sample to the song.

"Tuxedo Rap" - Man, I love this song.

The cutomary part of the show when Thes goes to the beat machine and then eventually hit the pads with his chin. Double K on the tables. Never gets old.

There were other songs sprinkled in there that I cannot remember. I ashamed because I have this vast knowledge of the P's catalog, but it's all a blur now. Possibly a combination of Red Stripes and fatigue. I loved the part when we were chanting "C-H-I-C-A-G-O...CHICAGO...hold up...CHICAGO"

Double K's uncle came out during the set too. Their version of Snoop's uncle. He was gone! Eating Pringles on stage.

The show eventually ended and Shawn Jackson came on stage. He had us chanting "CHI WANTS MORE!!! CHI WANTS MORE!!!" The P re-appeared on stage with Time Machine and Shawn Jackson. Busted out doing the Tuxedo Rap remix. DOPE!!! Then they ended the encore with "Hang Loose" Yeah buddy!. The funny part was when two white girls came on stage dancing along side Jaysonic of Time Machine. He lookd like he didn't know what to do and didn't want to seem obvious in trying to stare at their titties. Too funny!

The P know how to rock a set, definite crowd pleasers. Subterranean was jumping the minute they got on stage. PUMPIN!!!
