dusty diggin' thats an interesting read. any info on master p I don't know about that 1...

I think there has to be some rules but the current state of the law means that sampling (without clearance) is basically impossible... plus sometimes you can't even get clearance if you want it (!?). But can you have any laws to do with sampling at all without the same situation?

plus even if you clear a sample the money probably won't go to the original artist. and then you got the laws making everyone use digital sounds or just go diggin for those samples (hopefully) noone will know

Well because of the 6th district court of Cincinati and MASTER P the laws have gotten a lot more strict. It used to be if you used a sample and made it unrecognizeable you could slide by. Now a days if you use a toe tap from a Donald Byrd album you better have clearance. Even if you use studio musicians to redo the sample you need clearance from the publisher. I could elaborate some more but I'm at work and I don't want to get fired <img src="https://www.putsonline.co.uk/forum/my-plugins/bb-smilies/pfunk/icon_rolleyes.gif" title="" class="bb_smilies" />

i know most people would say they are against sampling laws but does anyone know what they actually cover and to what extent?

Obviously they make it illegal to use samples without clearance but is this a bad thing for hip hop? some say hip hop is dead and sampling laws killed it ... Everyone would love to be able to sample "willy nilly" like back-in-the-day but if someone sampled you wuldn't you want credit?
