Posted 21 years ago #So.. To get things started:
What kind of eqipment are all you producers out there using? I'm not asking you guys to drop all your big secrets (yet), but let me know what you're running, how you like it, and what you're looking for..
For myself:
Instruments:
-MPC3000 (best all round sampling drum machine ever made IMO)
-Technics 1200's & Vestax 05 Pro (hate this mixer BTW)
-Juno 60 (okay, not too versatile)
-Micromoog (bought this to replace the juno, the price difference reflects the sound difference, ie. the micromoog is 2x better and about 2x more flexible)
-Rhodes Keyboard
-Vermona DRM1 MKII Analog Drum Machine (great sounds except for the snare, not as versatile as it looks, NOISY)
-Electrix filter factory (really versatile, and sounds surprisingly not too bad)
-Ibanez Bass guitar
RECORDING:
-Mac w/ Digital Performer (big learning curve I thought)
-MOTU 828 interface (very expandable, and lots of options, sounds a little dissappointing, but not bad for the price)
-ADAT XT20 (Love it!)
-Masterlink (Love it!, highly recommended!)
-RNC (not so great for hip hop recording, though the rock guys love this thing)
-Joe Meek VC1Q (preamp better than your mackie but not too hot, EQ is pretty much useless, but the compressor is probably the cheapest opto compressor you can buy--sounds pretty good for the price)
-Alesis 3630: blah
-Alesis Ineko: neat tape delay effect
I've got some other stuff, but nothing really worth mentioning.. And I've used much more stuff than I personally own of course.
What about the rest of you?

Posted 21 years ago #My setup is pretty bad (notbadmeaninggoodbutbadmeaningbad). I dont really produce for any one or do anything important, just for personal enjoyment.
I want to get older keyboards, drum machines and 4 track tape jawns. I like my sh!t to sound lo-fi, made with older equipment with a dirty type sound. I want to get a crazy effects pedal, and I really want the FENDER RHODES. but ithis is what i have now...............
2 1200's
1 Numark SM Pro-1 (which I absolutely love, so dont say sh!t! It was between this and a vestax, and let me tell you I am soo glad I went with the numark)
Emac w/Final Vinyl and Garage Band-For recording the audio.
A Windows Machine w/ Cool Edit Pro-I really only make mixes with this, but I do make beats with it. As sh!tty as that is I do, I work with loops, etc. It is tedious and sucks, but it is what I have now.
Casio SK-1 Sampling Keyboard-4 seconds of sampling time? I dont really know, I dont used the sample feature that much. It actually stopped working the other day. Very odd.......Yo Millhouse read on I need help!
It seems that the power stopped working on this, I want to fix this because I love this keyboard, I have had it since I was a little tyke as illustrated by this pic:

SO yeah, it wont power up when plugged in anymore, But the odd thing is, it wont work on batteries either. Help me Scoop, you are my only hope!
p.s. Millhouse, I dont know if you remember me from the SAC release party, But We ran the Mercandise tables together for a little bit........ -
Posted 21 years ago #Okay, what up doc?
Regarding your SK1, it would probably be cheaper to buy another working one than have someone fix it. I've seen them for between 60-100$. If you have sentimental attachment to that one, it might be able to be fixed, and then again it might not.
If neither batteries nor the work, then it's probably not an easy solution. Do you get ANY lights or anything? If not, most likely something went ary in the power supply.
If you really insist on someone fixing that one. PM me and we can talk.. -
Posted 21 years ago #No job, no cash.. So I roll with an old 350 mhz G4 and Reason 2.5, which is working out pretty good.. Other than that I got a Numark tt200 and a pretty nice behringer mixer with a dope integrated little 12 second sampler that has a +-50% pitch control. Perfect for picking out loops with.
And of course an evergrowing collection of vinyl

I am still in the process of setting up my music room/studio.

93' Floydrose Edition Fender Stratocaster (my workhorse)
96' American Fender Stratocaster (back up, and drop D tuning)

Behringer GMX 212
various pedals to acheive sound
Guitar Amp for studio:
Peavey Rock Master with Groove Tubes
Peavey 31 band EQ
BBE sonic maximizer 322
Peavey M-2600 power amp (one channel for guitar, other for PA)

Peavey XRD680
Mics:

For my own stuff, I pencil out the drums and bass in Fruity Loops, and Layer everything together in Sound Forge or Pro Tools.

This is my room, striaght-up sh!t hole! -
Posted 21 years ago #Millhousescoop why u not like the Vestax 05 Pro? In form of skratching beyond the chirp and transform were built on the backbone of the 05. Props go to it if u even think about a flare, orbit, crab, twiddle, whatever you can think of, I praise Vestax for that. It may seem a little outdated now, but in 95 when it was introduced, that ALPS fader was the sh!t, I mean damn the new PCV's are rugged as hell, I just replaced my original crossfader after 3 years of usage, and it wasn't even really bleeding that bad. I got to admit, Ecler, Rane, Numark, Stanton and Pioneer have got some good faders nowadays but c'mon the 05Pro is the Miles Davis of mixers, the one who opened the minds.
My setup is not what I wish it was, but I am broke, and soon I will be in school with a 49,000 dollar debt over my head so I'll be even broker, haha anyway here it is.
2 1200's 1 mk2 1 m3d
Vestax 05ProII
Shure M-447's
Dell Inspiron 512 ram
Echo IO 24bit digital recording PCI slot card
Vestax Handytrax(for the diggin)
And, yes I use software
Cool Edit Pro 2.0(hacked)
Fruity Loops 3.0(hacked)
Izotope Vinyl Plugin(makes em lo-fi sounding if u will)
I just use Fruity Loops as an arranger, now that I have been digging(2 years) I sample my sh!t.
It took me 5 years to save up and buy that equipment, slowely aquiring the good decks, the good mixer, the nice new laptop, I've worked hard and still I am not satisfied: I'm saving up to buy a refurbed mpc 2000
"Can't afford an MPC/So drop the M from the name and you see my reality/
An unfortunately it looks like its gonna stay that way/Soft like the name but
much less to pay"
I f***ing hate software, after playing with an MPC4000 at a local Guitar Center for 20 minutes I realized. -
Posted 21 years ago #Oh sheet, I am getting 3800 dollars from the drunk driver who hit me last July. Time to throw away the software and get and mpc3000, these are hella hard to find. I looked on Ebay the last month or so and well not one popped up, plenty of 2000's tho. I digress, I will miss being able to zoom in on a sample 1000 times and look at every mean but who cares right?
Ebay the only place I can find a 3000, I saw an SP1200 but it didn't have the drive so that makes it f***ing pointless practically. -
Posted 21 years ago #I see 3000's all the time.. its been pretty low past month.. only 1 or 2 here and there... but i remebr times where there would be like 4 LE's and 5 or 6 other 3000's at one time... same goes to the 1200's always tons of them./.
you gotta search em in everyway someone would type it..
Akai MPC3000
MPC-3000
MPC
SP1200
SP-1200
SP
SP-12
E-MU
EMU
etc -
Posted 21 years ago #Thanks for the tip Melle, I guess I am not doing thorough enough searches. I'm getting my check cut today, I've opted for the 3000 overgetting a Rane TTM-56. The prices are different but I'd rather spend it on an mpc since my vestax is fine mixer for my skill level(moderate).
