Posted 19 years ago #Okay so I'm always looking for new music to check out, and I'm pretty up on all the new and old hiphop around but I was just wondering.... what kind of artists would you guys recommend to fans of the P? To me their style is pretty unique, but I love it so much that I would like to be able to find out about new sh!t. Throw any ideas my way.. I'll toss up a few obvious ones.
Jurassic 5
Ugly Duckling
Speech Defect
Breakestra (More a "funk" band, but dope!)
Ozomalti (with Chali 2Na on some tracks, good listen)
I'm just looking for more sh!t to check out with the same sample-based beat party vibe.. you know, that sound that only the P has. Any other groups out there that come to mind? -
Posted 19 years ago #Yes the P sound is pretty unique in hip-hop today. Hard, smooth and lush all at the same time.
Dont know who you're up on but check out the usual suspects below for a similar ethic and that party sound:
Ohmega Watts
Lightheaded
Giant Panda
Abdominal & DJ Fase
Oh and you need to get DJ Formats 2 albums 'Music For The Mature B-boy' and 'If You Can't Join Em...Beat 'Em' as they are both magnificent.
On the funk tip try:
The Bamboos
Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings
Nicole Willis & The Soul Investigators -
Posted 19 years ago #have you guys heard of damu da fudgemunk?
youtube this guy... myspace this guy... i'd love to hear/see a beat battle between thes and this guy! -
Posted 19 years ago #Why did it take until now for me to hear about Speech Defect? I gotta get out more.
Also check out:
Heiruspecs
J-Live
Blackalicious
Lyrics Born
Roots
Nothing you shouldn't already know, but if you didn't......get on it. -

If you Havent heard "Up pops the Sac" by starving artist crew, go and and find it, because it is awesome. SAC are so slept on, hardly anyone has heard of them, one listen and u will be hooked. When I first heard the sh!t i got my arse to the nearest cd shop and ordered it. Every track is quality, not just the single with thes on it. Some of the best tracks,
Dedication - This is possibly one of the best songs ever written and just the way it describes the hip hop lifestyle is amazing.
Feed the homelss - This song kills it also, was the first song that I heard
( on JJJ radio in Austrlia ), and this sh!t is dope, has a mad pete rock feel to it if u ask me.
To LostScholar
Man u are on some good sh!t here to, how good are the sound providers, not many people know them, i have a few records and a song or two on some compliations ( osiris, the storm soundtrack ), and el da senei, what can i say, what a voice, just fairly recently have been getting into the artifacts heaps, and know they are one of my all time fav, "between a rock and a hard place is now one of my fav records of all time", just bought "thats them" (cd) on ebay, cant wait for that sh!t to arrive. -

The Roots- More musical than your average hip hop, but still true to the essence.
Sound Providers- Yo listen to these guys, PUTS fans would love them, although their lyrics are pretty average the beats are hype. -
