I like the itunes idea as well. But the P hasn't been to the Detroit area since the Fun DMC tour and I do not foresee them coming thru anytime soon. If my preorder w/ itunes ensured a local show I would be down. I already plan on spending at least $35 between the vinyl and CD...

While I would have preferred to buy directly from pl70.net so they get the full $10 instead only $7 from Apple, in this day and age album sales don't measure up to what they can earn on the road. While you may despise Apple, you're doing the group a disservice by not buying through iTunes since it's what the promoters use to book and pay them. Face it, us hardcore fans are not the target audience anymore. Its the kids who have their faces stuck in their phones all day. It's simply easier to buy it in iTunes and having it download to your phone that downloading from pl70, unzipping the file, uploading to iTunes and then syncing. Some kids have never synced their phones to a computer.
I'm just theorizing here, but look at this album's setup. First single has a noticeable video game sample, classic drum break and repetitive chorus. Perfect mixture for today's youth. The album is the shortest full length the group has ever released. Shorter album for short attention spans. The album cover could be looked at as a depiction of today's youth mindlessly watching whatever is on TV. I could be reading too much into it or trying to find ways to counter argue the anti-iTunes attitude.
Either way, The P need us hardcore fans to get this album noticed in its first week of sales. If it gets in iTunes top charts, there's more leverage for them to book more shows and perform in places they haven't in a while. If it's popular, the kids will buy it. Remember when you were just a kid discovering The P?

Damn son. Weird blend of mainstreamish video and video game stuff with old skool hip hop flavor! I like it.

Seriously, I'm usually all for whatever means to get The P paid and touring but for those of us that don't run anything Mac related, iTunes is not an easy option. Being herded into the Apple ecosystem kind of feels like being forced into the facebook world(which I still won't do) just to get current PUTS updates(more updated then PL70 by a long-shot). I understand that there are "behind the scenes" reasons for them going this route that fans will never understand, but If I have to sell my metasoul to Apple to see The P that's where I draw the line...
Not trying to be all negative for this release as I am hyped as hell for it and I can see how Mac users think this is a trivial or moot point, but this sh!t runs deep in me and I can't give in to the iMan for PUTS no matter the reasoning...

interesting point Eso...
but i have to say, making music for 'the kids' instead of your long time fans would be a BIG mistake.
one that i doubt the P would ever make.
i mean, look at what music 'the kids' like these days...
(not that i have any clear idea as to what the f*** that might be... i'm still banging the Pete Rock & C L Smooth over here, and don't own a TV, let alone a cellphone)
i can't imagine the P intentionally dumbing it down for today's twitter-tention-span masses.
but i can understand the itunes thing if it will help them book gigs, so i will suck it up and order the damn thing from (ack) itunes. (still totally ordering the wax from PL70, though)
ok, old man rant over, carry on.

I think the trouble is us "hardcore" fans, as much as we support Thes & PUTS to the fullest they do need to make sure their music gets out there & is just not restricted to this forum. I'm sure Thes thought long & hard about the iTunes route but in the end, he wants to make the music & we want to listen to it so sometimes you need to dance with the devil. To be honest I'm not that precious to be overly bothered about it, I will buy the new album from PL70 in any format I can get which means I may end up with it duplicated but I'm just a People under the stairs fan....a Thes fan....a music fan & I'm sure like a lot of the forum cats try to support PUTS anyway I can.

Oh, I don't think Thes and Double K are dumbing it down one bit. I take it as their spin on making something people other than us would like. I mean, they're not going to go all Slaughterhouse on us and go away from what makes them what they are to get a pop hit. I view this single/album as an attempt to be a tad more accessible to hip-hop fans and maybe just music fans in general. Hey, I could be wrong on the whole accessibility thing, but I know we will still bump The P no matter how it gets to us. Right?
Me personally, I'm looking to go full steam into the Apple ecosystem. My PC that I had since 2006 was running XP, which had support ended yesterday. As I get older, I'm looking for things to be simpler and less time consuming. I used to love tinkering with my PC settings and tweaking things. Now, I just want to plug it in and have it work. Considering we have iPhones and iPads in our house, it only makes sense for us.

f*** iTunes...I'm not buying it. Never have done...never will do. I admire for Thes for many reasons, but can't support this route.
I'll be supporting them the only way I know how...by buying vinyl and cd (if cd is available?) direct from PL70, and giving money straight to the source. The P will never be playing Nottingham again, and even if I thought buying it from iTunes would make a difference, I still wouldn't do it.
It's sad that Thes has to go down this route as Highlighter was a big f*** you to the man...but lets face it, he's got a business to run, and more importantly, a family to support...and they will always come first.
I hope he gets what he requires from the iTunes sales to keep everybody happy, and I think he will, as most people are more open minded than me.
Vinyl is on the up...and Thes has played a part in that...and that's all that matters to me at the moment with regards to music.
Obviously, I can't wait for this wax to drop...and I'll be doing my bit to support PL70 by buying two copies...

I also do not own iTunes since it is a bloated garbage bin of a program. I like it simple and clean. I buy the vinyl and along with it the MP3 or I rip the vinyl to WAV myself. I just hope that the music is good as always and that is mostly all there is to it for me!

Well, iTunes and all this aside, the flipping has begun (before the album has probably even been pressed!) :

Didn't realize itunes was such a point of contention around here. I don't care for it either (was all about winamp and recently switched to foobar) but I had no problem downloading it just to purchase the single.
And I'd totally buy that ebay listing if it weren't totally suspect of being fraudulent.

Pre-orders are already available on amazon with release day shipping. Think I may go with that instead of PL70 if that is the case.I'd expect PL70 to ship before anyone else, regardless of the "official" release date

^^ Exactly. I'd say that's a reasonable assumption, as everyone else will have to get their copies from PL70 or through distributors.

Yeah, I'm still holding off for that reason and the fact that there's a good chance they'll have some bonus ish if you order it on PL70.
