Well, well, well. Recently i have found out that Give Love A Chance sounds oddly familiar to Too Complete by DJ Premier. I know that PUTS was influenced by DJ Premier but to use pretty much the same beat? i dunno very shocking to me...

i know for a fact now that acid raindrops is a pete rock sample for the song What You Say by INI... whack

it shouldnt be a big deal..

that guitar sample in e business sounds similar to the guitar from 'verses from the abstract' by a tribe called quest.

but, i dont see it as biting or anything (i'm assuming you are), i see it as a possible homage to that certain producer/group. the way mos def, for example, covers slick rick's children's story on that black star album, or the way the hook to one be lo's propaganda is straight from black moon's "who got da props', the p may be shouting out other groups through their beats... after all they pride themselves in the quality of their beats, so what better way to shout out a few people out than through beats?

besides, puts has an unbelievable body of work... six albums (including or stay tuned and AMv.1) filled with...

records are for all. of course, the end product is what is most important. the samples from the same record can produce completely different songs.

that pete rock joint, for example, the songs are TOTALLY different. sh!t, acid raindrops OWNS pete rock's what you say. plus, technically speaking, o.s.t. was released moths before "lost and found". that album is composed of unreleased material, so how exactly would the p get their hands on that unreleased song, track the sample, and make a whole other song? impossible.

we should be worried if the p was making songs with beats that sounded absolutely identical to others, but there arent many(if any).

each producer can make an individual statement with the same records.


so, whether it be coincidence, homage, etc., you shouldnt let it this get to you. its normal in hip hop.

i think its kinda whack no matter what anyone says. look i believe in resampling songs but if it sounds too similar to another beat then i think its whack. its like making the mona lisa over again but tweaking it a little bit and trying to sell it as your own "creative" art. if you cant agree with that then ur just stubborn. i dont hate puts at all. all there songs are good even those that i have named. but still its whack... im just sayin i wouldnt ever do that. id feel ashamed. but i guess there is the chance that they didnt know about the other songs, i dont think we'll ever know.

One thing I think is great about hip hop w/ samples is hearing parts you know from other songs and/or movies, etc. suprisingly enough, I first heard E Buisness before Verses From The Abstract, but when i made the connection between the two it was just as awesome to listen to both. Just as all chefs pick from the same ingredients, it is the same for producers as well. It is possible that PUTS made a beat that sounded too similar to the ATCQ song and decided homage would be fairer than an unoriginal beat. Plus, for every ATCQ beat you hear in a song, there are dozens others pulled straight from a forgotten vinyl that thes found on the street.

but when i heard What You Say it definitely dulled Acid Raindrops for me. its just not the same as when i first heard it. and that was one of the songs that i could listen to like it was the first time everytime i head it. ya digg?


well, if it makes you feel any better about the song, O.S.T. was released over a year before the pete rock joint. check out allmusicguide links with official release dates...

some of the tracks off pete rock's lost and found were unreleased, so the p coulnt have gotten their hands on them.

well, it personally doesnt bother me because i know the p's intent was not to "steal" a sample from pete rock, but i can definetley see how this would affect you.

how can you say it wasnt there intent to steal it? do u really know?
