   Hi everyone,
   
   I'm getting bored with my music collection and i want to hear some new sh!t. I'm kinda into instrumental hip hop stuff at the moment, herbaliser, bonobo, jel, drum heavy stuff. Anyone got any recommendations? The more obscure the better...

   Man Jel's album soft money is one of my all time favourites.
   
   Not sure how obscure these guys are, but if you want something a little different in a hip hop/ instrumental style then check.....
   
   Sixtoo, Four Tet, Prefuse 73, Lukid, Flying Lotus.

   Soft money is the business! I only found out about jel from seeing "sweet cream in it" on youtube. Thanks for the tips lads. I take it Beat Konducta is madlib? Definately will check out Sixtoo, Lukid and flying lotus, not heard of any of those dudes. Dr Who Dat sounds like a treat too. Time to look for some torrents... ahem i mean go to HMV...

   yeah beat konducta is madlib. Apart from lootpack, and madvillain I've never been that impressed by madlib (which is considered heresy by most). That said, he released an 2x7" under the name of 'the beat conductor' (not konducta) which is very good.
   
   I only got Jel after seeing Subtle live by accident, and being so impressed by his MPC skills that I bought his LP after the show before hearing it. Definitely the best impulse buy by a long way!
   
   The people I recommended all have a foot in hip hop, but some definitely take a fairly progressive approach. Hope you find something you like!

   sheeeit clutchy hopkins is a good recommendation. definitely go for his first album 'the life of...', though.
   
   Did anyone find out who he really is in the end? I heard it could be one of the following...
   
   mike d, shadow, chemist, madlib

   clutchy hopkins? Ha ha, sounds like some kind of 1920's tip. Definately gonna check all this out. The album that Madlib did with the bluenote samples is absolutely awesome, and he's got quite a cool reggae dub mix called blunted in the backroom. But your right, i think he's somewhat overhyped at times. My friend wants to book jel for a night here in glasgow, but we just don't think he's well known enough over here to make ends meet, get enough peeps in to cover the costs. Love to see that guy live though.

    Obviously cos i'm at work, i've got nothing better to do then check out this forum and research Clutchy Hopkins. There's loads of sh!t about this guy/guys. Whats the deal? Is it cut? Shadow? No-one seems to know. I love these games!

    bought some flying lotus. The new album, in LA or something its called. Its exactly what i was after. Can't find damn Clutchy Hopkins anywhere though. Thanks for the tips guys.

    Good to hear you liked LA. Such a good album! He's releasing 3 limited edition EP's of mostly new material from around the same sessions. EP1 is out already and well worth a look of you want more of the same. FlyLo is definitely going to be one to watch in the near future.

    Man flying lotus is really growing on me. Any other recommendations along that vein? Just copped Electric Laser too. Sounds tight as f***, really well produced. Got Vast Aire's new album aswell, deuces wild. Great rhymes, but i don't think he'll ever be able to top Cold Vein, one of the most unique hip hop albums ever made in my opinion.
