Posts: 1,874Posted 18 years ago #Yo guys, i've got a full compliment of new obscure instrumental stuff to look up, now I want to start a discussion of what's going on with new traditional hip hop style albums, along the lines of Abdominal and DJ Fase, Panacea, Old School UD, of course PUTS,GP,Y Society etc. Some nice new chillin underground hip hop is what i'm after... Any ideas? I'm lookin for some stuff i've never heard of again, so more obscure the better...
Would love some tips on any new british hip hop too.

UK Hip Hop -
the new Kashmere album is supposed to be mad good. I got his previous (In The Hour Of Chaos) and judging by that it should be dope.
there's a group called The IRS - their album is good in a typical true-school styled hip hop vibe. Nothing new but dope for what it is. Some good emcee back-and-forth
From The Ashes by Chester P is a NICE album. beats are alright but really it's the dude's verses which are great. proper London grittyness sound
The new Raashan Ahmad album is pretty good...
if anyone is up for importing things then hit me up - i know A BUNCH of DOPE Japan-only sounds

Probably my favourite bit of wax is the Kashmere Space Cadets 12" on Blue Marble vinyl. Quite right about the Taskforce guys too, incredible, ridiculous rhymes, but the beats are a bit on the raw side. Any of you guys listen to the newest Braintax album? Can't remember what its called, but its got an awesome tune on it about tea and biscuits. -

Posts: 3,255Posted 17 years ago #Copped Audacity yesterday. Sounds like your standard Ugly Duckling album, they didn't really try any new directions on this one (which is good for me, 'cause I like the way they sound already). Einstein drops the strings and horns and relaxing sh!t again.
This time, they sing a lot more, which honestly isn't too bad because they can hold their notes. I'm gonna have to give it a few more listens to really give an honest opinion of it, but initial impressions point toward me putting about 60-75% of the tracks on my "frequent player" playlist for a while.
One question regarding PUTS & UD: is the line
"[Thes:] So if you got a problem with that,
[KK:] Well look, man, you shouldn't be our opening act"
on "Up Yo Spine" supposed to be a homage to (or a cut at) Ugly Duckling (a la "Opening Act"), or am I looking for a connection/fight that isn't there? Anyone know if UD and PUTS are still cool with each other? -
