I am not trying to annoy or aggravate Thes One or Double K by making this post, because I realise that they have both worked incredibly hard creating Fun DMC for the past two years. I am definitely appreciative.
I purchased the album a few days ago and returned to the shop the next day to buy a copy for my friend as a gift -
this music has evaporated the doom and gloom vibe I have been feeling lately in this murky city. It is amazing how one CD can change your whole perspective and frame of mind.
I was wondering if anybody knows if they are considering touring England to promote FUN DMC? I was so upset that I missed them last time, they even visited my home city and I was oblivious.
This time around, I am hoping to travel around England in order to see the duo a few times - I am even willing to travel all the way to London if they are only planning on hitting the major cities.

Posts: 16Posted 17 years ago #hey man, i ask myself that question every day. i posted a similar question a while ago but didnt get much of a response. i actually met Thes this summer and asked him that question but its tough for these guys especially because of the last tour. when i spoke to him I actually felt really bad/ashamed that the P got treated the way they did last time they were here. i was going to suggest that some fans do the promoting good and proper and sort all the sh!t out so the P dont have to because of all the bullshizzle that happened on the last tour. i, for one, would be happy to do it for these guys. anyone else?
Thes if you are reading this, your fans in the UK would love for you guys to head down - a few nights at the jazz cafe (or somewhere else...)?

i saw them 3 times on the southcoast and the venue was packed out and pumpin each time.

In fact the last gig i went to was so much ruckus that the crowd f*cked up all the monitors at the front of the stage and thes and dub k had to continue unplugged. So yeah, i'd like to hear of these stories of puts haters giving the UK a bad name. Glasgow will always welcome the P. -

It's just really humbling to think that without the fans and people that supported us there is nothing separating us from anyone else. There's a contingency of people that go out of their way to support what we do artistically, so now we have this obligation to these people not to disappoint them. It's funny because being what it is now, where we're making this music that's so personal, when we travel I meet fans and some of them deal with us well and some don't. Those are the times I wish we had a persona because some fans make it so personal they feel like they know us and they think we should be these people that come and hang out all the time. It makes it difficult to keep an arms distance from them at that point. We have to remind them that we're not going to their dorm room and we're not going to party all night and freestyle on their couch.
Sure, some fans can be a little too selfish about the necessary distance between the artist and the fan.
Yeah, on our last tour in Europe it got to the point where I felt like we were being seriously disrespected by people who were wearing the badge of PUTS fan a little too heavy for my comfort. They would steal sh!t from us onstage like they didn't have any rules. For instance, we were in Japan and this guy that was a sunglass designer made Double K and I two pairs of the most fly white sunglasses, and all he wanted us to do is wear them when we party. These sunglasses meant a lot to me and I would wear them every night on stage during [the tour] Hang Loose. Through the course of the tour in Europe, the glasses got stolen three times. We got them back twice.
The second time they got stolen we were in Leeds and I remember I took them off onstage, turned around, and they were gone. At that point I stopped the party and said, 'Whoever took my f***ing sunglasses, you need to come back,' so I go through the crowd and start hitting people up and I'm like, 'Yo man, someone needs to give me back my glasses.' Finally, it's this kid who's like, 'Yo man, it's my birthday. I support everything that you do,' and I tell him to give me my f***ing sunglasses, so he says back, 'I knew you were the dick of the group,' and that's where it always ends up. People cross the line and when you try and regulate they think you're not the person that comes across in the music and they start questioning all the personal sh!t.
It's like they look at you as some fantasy character rather than a real human being that has boundaries.
Absolutely, and the irony behind all that is the real human being is what creates the music. They want us to become a character and that's precisely what we haven't been and that's what made our music popular. It's weird because the younger generation of music lovers, they don't have a respect for music because of MP3's and downloads. I don't think they understand as much as those who had to go out and buy records and CD's.

Glasgow always has a couple of dicks who would rather be at a f*cking dragonforce concert or some sh!t moshin about the place. But stealin sh!t from the P? I reckon it all comes down to respect, something which young bloods today just don't have. I sound like my dad. I can see what thes is talking about though, everyone thinking that him and Dub K are their mates, cos of the style of the music. -

The only bad point of the evening was one chap who had plainly had too much ale screaming for the lads to play Yield over and over again . Theres always one knobhead who feels ( For whatever f***ed up reason ) that he has his own set list and plants a sign on his head like LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME i want you to play this just for me . Man i badly wanted to give this bloke a slap but thought better of it after Thes told him to chill and basically shut the f*** up
After the show the lads mingled , i slapped hands with both of them with a smile on my face because like alot of people they are heroes of mine then me and my girl left . Thats how i see it , just pay your respects and jet . -

I'd like to think I was more of a rabid fan than a knobhead, though.

No truer words have been spoken. I get pissed off with guys shouting "play this" "play that" over and over again at gigs too. C'mon saint, you think anyones gonna change their set-list just cos some guy is shouting at them? Rabid fan is one thing, respectful fan is another. I think some guys are down with the P, and some guys just want a piece of the P, hence the stealing of the sunglasses etc. It sucks though, cos i reckon if i was in their position and i kept getting that kind of sh!t, then i'd stop hanging round after gigs to meet the fans, sign sh!t etc. -

We are having issues right now with our booking agent over there but we will try and make it through before the year is over, even if it's only for a jazz cafe show.
btw, last tour our car got vandalized outside of the club in manchester (back window got smashed in) and the venue didn't do sh!t to help us or protect our rental car. We had to drive the rest of the tour with no windows. It takes the fun out of touring, believe me. -

Posts: 584Posted 17 years ago #I can fully understand the issues here. for a long long time all i wanted is to be able to go and see one of my fave bands rocking a spot without drunken fools messing things up for the true Hip Hop heads. I saw PUTS in Essex Uni and at one point people started throwing drinks on stage which wasn't very cool and of course PUTS wanted to stop the show.....understandable really. The things is a UK crowd can show so much love but on the other hand can be the worst!! UD came to the same place a few months afterwards and the crowd was different and showed much love. Just give us another try Thes......come on you know it makes sense. As for a rental car......I've got the hook up, but it must've been a pane...(sorry not funny) -

I don't even mind when people yell requests (within reason) at least i know people have favorite songs they want to hear. But i won't tolerate personal disrepect before or after the show, like cats stealing my personal belongings because "I owe them for their support" which has been told to me. And these aren't the dudes that support, these are the dudes that download. They are the ones that aren't sure which album SF knights is on. I know whose who, I can usually tell immediately.
I would hate to punch a fan in the face, but if you break my car window, try to steal double K's record bag, or take any of my sh!t, I don't care how many albums you bought, you're gonna catch one.
this is still hip hop.
that being said, I am going to try to get to booking this UK tour, just give me some time, I 'm a one man business show here. -

dude maybe I'm misunderstanding you but I think shouting for a song is worlds apart from stealing someones' glasses. I wouldn't vic a strangers sh!t and I sure as hell wouldn't steal from my favorite hip-hops! -

I feel ashamed and feel like apologising on behalf of the goodfolk of Manchester . It has to be said that Britain contains alot of knobheads who try to act mean when they have a few beers in em . I avoid these people like the plague . Once again Thes disapoinyed to hear about your misfortune and i hope it hasnt put you off coming back here .
