Posts: 127Posted 21 years ago #WOAH WOAH BUDDY!! That definitely is not cool that you're sampling drums already extracted by the P...Don't get lazy and jack their drum breaks cuz you think its dope. Just dig harder and try and find drum breaks off of old records and not the P's records. Definitely not cool man... I know samples are for everybody but generally good hip-hop artists don't sample off of fellow hip-hoppers already sampled work. Thats an unwritten rule man.. I had to get that off my chest cuz I can't stand mad biters.

Posts: 49Posted 21 years ago #ill sample a hip hop record anyday. its been done since the begginging. Wether its people sampling a line for a beats hook or what not. Thats a good break and ill use it. And I sample breaks off vinyl all the time, I got the P breaks off vinyl. -

Posts: 49Posted 21 years ago #I got the upper most respect for thes, but I gotta be ruthless bout my sampling, if u gonna be dick ridin what other peeps say this n that and gonna be scared to sample this, cuz "that break has been played" or "someone alread 'flipped' that sample" you not gonna get sh!t done, you just gonna keep worrying bout what some nerd hopper gonna think ooooooh you bit this n that. f*** that -

Nah here's my thoughts on this I make a lot of drum n bass and never ever sample a break off of a drum n bass tune for a few reasons
1 - it's already eq'd, compressed etc so you can't undo that if it aint quite how you want it to sound.
2 - I f you track down the original source (break ) 9 times out of ten you'll find thier is more to it , more fills or the break is longer than the tune youv heard that sampled it.. so it's worth doing
3 - it's a damn good feeling when you track down that break! nuff said

Posts: 127Posted 21 years ago #Haha Mel read my post again and see that I use the word generally in the context that good hip-hop artists usually don't sample other dudes work to use as their own. Especially if it is a full drum break like Live at the Fishbucket's drum break. Man obviously it's cool to cut up an acappella from another's work such as a Del tha Funkee line and put it into your own song, but when you're biting the P's actual break man thats for tools. Also if artists do use other artists breaks for their song it costs money to do, so for example, if Snoop is using an old break crafted and implemented by say Eric B. and Rakim, he's paying them to do so. I don't see you catching the P and asking them for a break so keep thinking what you want but I know you biting.

Posts: 384Posted 21 years ago #im with Denny on this, sampling a whole break is not cool at all, personally i feel that scratching on some acappella with the acception of a small phrase is already taking more than enough to make a good track,
i think its pretty lame to make the thread for a reaction from thes, i can imagine he would be the bigger person here and probably drop a line and not give a sh!t, but i cant speak for the man. -

If ya got the OG record of the break, go ahead sample that sh!t my brotha, but if has been sampled by thes one, make it yours. Do somethin to make that break sound original with its own finger print. You gotta put your own style to it. I mean How man times has someone sampled Funky President By James Brown? Or a matter afact who hasn't sample james brown one way or another?
flip the samples your way and put YOUR style into it.
we all get our sample from same records, but make our songs sound completly different, hopfully my point got across
