I guess this is the right cubbyhole for this thread...
Basically, I'm looking for CHEAP, cruddy, in-ear, stable headphones that you can use on the block and not in the studio. I usually have to have the headband on them, 'cause the ones that rest in my ears fall off if I run too fast or move my head in the right direction, but they make me look a little old school. And I can't do full-ear-cover, 'cause I wear them at work, so I need to be able to hear people.
Currently, I'm using Sony MDR-W08s (or MDR-W24s with the "volume control" all the way up) which are about $10, and they are the best I've come across. But two issues:
1) One earpiece fuzzes out after about 2 or 3 months 'cause of all the wear (and I take good care of my sh!t too)
2) They (along with the rest of the Sony headphones) are getting pulled from all the stores all of a sudden (too expensive to stock?), and I don't want to start contacting Amazon every 2-3 months when they break.
Suggestions?

Posts: 1,874Posted 16 years ago #I use sennheiser cx300 II's, inner ear headphones, they're a bit on the dearer side (got em for 50 quid) but their immense, they can even take the base hit from code check on Question without any distortion. I listen to stuff I used to listen to before with sh!t headphones and it sounds totally different. I can even hear little mistakes in production and stuff with these guys, which I absolutely love. I'd heavily recommend them, I think a newer model is out now, cx300 IV or somethin... anyways, sennheiser in the way forward... plus you should get a 6 year guarantee.
Although saying that I'm gonna check out the Koss Portapro... -

Posts: 1,659Posted 16 years ago #any one got any thoughts on skull candy headphones or they just a gimmic? lookin to invest in some old skool ear warmer over the head type phones. i got a budget of £50, i know i should pay more for quality but truth is they gna get used and abused alot, chucket around in my bag etc, so really dnt wanna pay any more. any thoughts? also, any headphones that dnt have the 3.5meter lead. sooooo annoying all that cable.

Posts: 40Posted 16 years ago #RadioShack's $50 Koss headphones sound as good as the Audio Technica ATHM30s I have now. Same bracket of quality, really. To get a decent pair, you can't skimp that much. $50 is usually about right. All the Sennheiser's I've heard were really good.
The only problem I had with the Koss' was that they didn't feel all that sturdy. I used to live with my headphones or. After 6-8 months, the L + R markings wore off, the pads were ripped up, and eventually the right headphone just stopped working, which happened after the plastic band that goes over your head broke and re-broke after supergluing.
So just, y'know, be careful with 'em.I bought the warranty. I went through three pairs before I changed brands. Real good pair, not very portable though. -

ATH M40 got best low budget tracking head phones in sound on sound this month - I have some audio technica w1000 (made from Japanese Hokkaido cherry tree wood) the level of detail present through these headphones is staggering; they're truly relentless in revealing poor mixing, shoddy recording or poorly compressed music. My work paid for them £450 there ain't no way I would have paid that much. I love audio technica stuff and have had a few pairs in the past. I also have some Beyer Dynamic DT100's, DT150's and DT250's for in the live room.

Music production lecturer, this was a few years ago when the recession had not kicked in yet - now I would be lucky to get a 1/4inch jack adaptor!

I had a choice between computers, genetics, or music... and i went with genetics. Now all the jobs have been cut or have lines a mile long to get in the door. Me and my stupid *ss. If I'd known the economy would tank when I hit 27, I would've gone with computers... always a job somewhere for a techie.
