Not trying to get all High Fidelity on everyone, but for those diggers on the boards, how have you organized your records? (hope this wasn't already asked)
For me, it's straight alphabetical, with the 7" singles tucked in the same sleeves of the albums they came from... I don't have enough records to do anything else (around 500)... If I had a ton, I'd probably switch to chronological or maybe genre-based. (I have about 1100 DVDs/Blurays, and they are in a genre/director mish-mash.)
It'd be especially cool to find out how Double and Thes sort their sh*t... For instance, which ones Thes has on the top rack that he has to reach with that ladder...

I got my 7"s in 2 7" crates I got as a hand-me-down from the dude that runs a local record store here in Charleston. Funk/Soul/Jazz/Rock in three crates alphabetized, and hiphop/downtempo/disco/breaks/scratch records in seven crates alphabetized and whatnot. The crates are set up "library style" with spines facing out, and I keep a slim crate (holds about 20) set aside to pull records for sets I'm working on. -

Posts: 372Posted 16 years ago #I haven't got round to Alphabetically organizing the artists, good idea though. I don't know how many records I have in my collection (maybe 500-600) but once it starts getting out of hand then I'm going to have to do something about it.
I generally either stick all the tunes by one artist (or group) together or if it's a particular label (for instance CTI) then I'll arrange them that way. -

I also have a special box of uber rare ish that i never play unless its a special occassion and never ever let anyone else get their greasy fingers on. "Look with your eyes, not with your hands!"

a fire crate is a crate of your best and/or rarest tunes that in case of a fire will be the first thing you grab... -

another crate i have is my guilty pleasures crate: it's got my A&M Herb Alpert stuff, along with my Dionne Warwick collection -

Posts: 262Posted 16 years ago #My records are broken down into categories - hip hop, jazz (all kinds), funk/soul/R&B, electronica/dance, rock/folk/pop/anything else, soundtracks, comilations.
Within these sections they're in an order which makes sense only to me. It's kind of a stream of consiousness thing. For example, I have all my Preemo stuff in one place, with OC's Jewelz at one end, which then becomes my DITC section, which has Showbiz & AG's first album at the other end. Black Sheep is next to that (because Dres appears on that LP) and we're into the Native Tongues section. Beatnuts at the other end of that, then Kurious' first LP (half of which was produced by Beatnuts, then Souls of Mischief (because Casual appears on the Kurious LP) etc etc etc.
Like I said, it makes sense to me.... -

my 1st CD i bought with my own money......
no laughing, i was 12.... haha.
