Nah, there isn't anything you, me, or any of us can do about it. You're unfortunately right that ignorance will always be around. What I WANT to do about it is find a way to get rid of it, but since I know that won't happen, I just do like I did at the beginning of this thread: point out the situation to like-minded people, and hope they find it as amusing as I do.
My personal take on ignorance (no argument or anything, just explanation): If I'm ever ignorant of something, I may feel hurt about someone calling me out on it AT THE TIME they do it, but later, I'm sure I'll laugh about it. People take themselves too seriously, and a lot of the time, I'm no exception. But as long as I can (at some point) loosen up enough, then I know I'm still able to recognize that I can learn new sh!t and get rid of the ignorance inside me. If I was stubborn enough to either 1) think I was right all the time or 2) get super-offended about being called wrong, then I think I'd burn out a lot quicker and be a lot more pessimistic.
As far as your points, EarthTraveler, I agree with you 200%. You can't blame wikipedia, and there are always going to be ignorant people. I just find it funny that so many people think PUTS are from SF because they basically wrote the biggest anthem for SF since that Scott MacKenzie song back in the hippie days. I can see where they'd get it wrong because SF Knights was such a huge (underground) hit, but with even the smallest amount of digging, you can find out that PUTS have written about 4-5 with "L.A." in the title.
