Just create a database on the server (I did this with some automated thing) and then install the forum, add whatever styles, pics etc you want and you're off. Just follow the instructions and it's fine - the more complex you want it to be, the more complex you edit it
and I haven't learnt any of this from school, I did a computing course but that's different stuff, all homegrown
