Posted 16 years ago #I know there's quite a few on here or at least there used to be..
I'm just curious as to what making beats means to you..why you do it, and mainly any of you really pushing it, getting your music heard? Collaborations? Any label interest... who's 'grinding' as they say...

Posted 16 years ago #i produce for the fun of it these days...i played the professional musician game for a the better part of a decade, but I got a family and kids now, so all that remains a pipe dream. But when I produce beats and compose electronic music and post it on various websites, I love that I can distribute my music all around the world for free. I remember back in the mid 90's when I first started composing techno and house and big-beat, I used to make mixtapes and sell em at raves for $2 a piece, then when home cd burners came out I used to do the same thing with cd's, it was hard as hell to get people to pay attention, let alone get any real exposure. But truthfully, I'm happy a handful of people around the world listen to my music and download it and trade production tips with me. F.ck a record label, I'm happy doing it on my own terms

Posted 16 years ago #Yeah, same here. I've been making my own music for about 5 years now, and I love it. It's just a form of expression (like drawing or painting etc). And it keeps me going. The reason I do it is all for the fun. I distribute it to my friends, and sometimes to people on these forums

Xellerated & gravitycafe, you dudes got myspace? always interested to hear.
I do this sh!t for the same reasons, but now taking it more seriously but obviously not taking any fun away from it. I'm working on some beat placements with a few well known artists next year and also a couple beats on my dude Co$$' LP on TRES which I'm real hyped about..coming in the new year.

I don't really have a description for what I write, it kinda ranges from acid-jazz to jungle and drum n bass to breakbeats to house to trip-hop to electro and idm, i'm kinda all over the place, but I think I've managed to carve out a style of my own. I got a few pages, but I like the soundloud one the best. I like the simple layout

Posted 16 years ago #yo SF you got beats on the c0$$ album?? dooope, how did you manage that!!? hyped to hear the album!

Posted 16 years ago #Word up yoyopo!! Simple really, just gave me his e-mail and I sent some beats. We definitely have musical chemistry, styles mesh well together I think. He's recorded over like 6 of my beats so far and there should be at least two on the final album. I'm mad hyped!! Gona be the first time I'll have my name on a proper release.
Been pushing my music out to loads of dudes lately with more to come... sometime this month gona have a beat on Joe Scudda's free ep (from h.o.j..little brother, 9th wonder etc)
