Don't think theres been a thread on this yet.
Well '09 is nearing to a close. What have been your favourite Hip-Hop albums of this year excluding the P though...as I'm sure carried away is on the top of everyones list!
Ima go with Fashawn and Exile 'Boy Meets World'..I can listen to it from start to finish.
Also Finale-A pipe dream and a promise-very well rounded LP, something for everyone I think..Issues is completely sick..
Rae's ob4cl2 was pretty dope
Skyzoo's salvation had some nice tracks
Blaq Poet's blaq print had a few nice tracks
Bk-One's radio do canibal is dope
Alchemist-chemical warfare has some bangers
Elzhi's Preface was dope
Grouch & Eligh G&E also pretty dope
illa J-Yancey boys..ya'll should know bout that one (!?)
Marco Polo & Torae-Double Barrell...Boom Bap!
Mos Def Ecstatic anyone?
hmm...all I can think of for now. Interested to see ya'll faves
At least, CYNE - Water For Mars.
Listening to Sene & Blu's project, right now.
Sounds quite dope.
The Preface & Yancey Boys are 2008, doesn't really matter, though.
Finale's LP is a dope listen.
Ain't mad at The Ecstatic, either, some solid Mos Def.
Damn, SF, you got some catching up to do
CYNE, one of the dopest out there (Big fan), they been at it for some time now
I could tell you to listen to some specific stuff, no point in that.
Always very consistent and very few/none songs not worth listening or not on point or something like that, CYNE always dope.
Very hard to get their stuff, though, which is a pain in the ass.
Common Market - The Winter's End EP, most definitely.
Only has 5 songs, though.
Listening to Us by Brother Ali, Babygirl sounds real dope.
I don't know about the rest of you, but in my humble opinion 2009 was alright, but nothing real great as far as Hip-Hop's concerned.
Thanks for the Fashawn, Skyzoo albums, SF, have to check them out.
Have to check out some more 2009 Hip-Hop.
For me 2009, for a big part was experiencing and expanding my knowledge, understanding & love for other music.
I checked that one last night, continuing with it today.
Very dope Mos Def and Raekwon and some pretty cool guitar riffs/solos.
Funny ass ODB, too.
What's up with Ludacris, though? He really shouldn't be there.
Not a great year for new hiphop (excluding the P), but I did get the remastered Beastie Boys albums on vinyl this year and there were some good funk albums released this year as well.
I'm sure I'm forgetting a few, but off the top:
Felt 3: A Tribute to Rosie Perez
Brother Ali - Us
Madlib - Beat Konducta 5-6
Nicolay - City Lights Vol. 2: Shibuya
Big Tone - Art of Ink
J Dilla - Jay Stay Paid
Still need to check out:
Paten Locke - Super Ramen Rocket sh!t
Grayskull & Maker - Graymaker
I heard good things about that Fashawn album, might have to check it out
that Paten Locke album is pretty nice - nice and hyped up!
this year felt a bit low on the releases, the Doom album was balls but I was feeling these :
Homecut - No Freedom Without Sacrifice - real nice jazzy uk hip hop Dam Funk - pump this up on some big speakers 5xLP of DA FUNK! Speech deBelle - most anticipated & highly rated Jemapur - Evacuation my man from japan with some complex beats
the new Ghost album is good too. but erm, what else...?
Thaione Davis - Still Here
Tanya Morgan - Brooklynati
The Red Giants (Jermiside & Brickbeats) - Chain Reaction EP
Mos Def - The Ecstatic
Blaq Poet - The Blaqprint
Dilla - Jay Stay Paid
Divine Minds And Soulklap - The Quan

NOT on the Fashawn album--just wasnt feelin it, and i wanted to (trust): a) there were quite a few trax off his banging mix tapes (higher learning, and one shot one kill to name a couple); and to be honest i like the mix tape trax better--exile switched up a few beats on there and i think it made the trax worse. b) exile is a great producer but i dont care for this album, too slow for me. i did buy the album to support one of my fave mc's right now though. hate to sh!t on fash but, gotta get someone that suits ur style--i look back at mcs like planet asia that always had the flow but never a producer to suit his style. he shud get joey chavez or maybe evidence to do his sh!t--just to name a few west coasters off the top. hed b great with nicolay too. anyway, thats just my humble op'n
havent really scooped much from '09 im still catchin up. i have like 20 albums on my list on amazon and other sites. Thanks for the heads up yall....
Top '09 Albums (in no order at all):
Carried Away - PUTS
* for obvious reasons; i can put on tha p and listen all day--i cant say that of ANY artist except maybe De La. still havent quite figured that one out.
Love Supreme EP - UNI (free)
* solid production
* thurz + y-o chemistry
- sometimes needs a break; defly not for everyone
Born like this - MF Doom
* solid album if u havnt heard many of the trax on here
- heard a lot of trax already; i relaly dont know y artists continue this trend to put out trax on their full lengths that have been out for awhile--shame
---
I gotta cop that Marco Polo, hes always on point--reminds me of like DJ honda. If u like his sh!t, Ive heard some trax off of Chief's new album (chief collabo collection)--itsa banger so far. Tanya Morgan also has some dope trax, but im not feelin them on every track--some nice vids but i saw em live and they were alright. I generally like anything from lil sci aka john robinson--i feel like his flow takes it back in many ways; production too.

Wow, that's really interesting to me beezer, just cuz I've heard nothing but good things from peeps about boy meets world. To me it's so cohesive, flows so well and really tells an interesting story throughout. In my opinion it's also some of exile's best work. But hey, contrasting points of view was what I was interested in hearing too. I agree I could hear him rocking over EV for sure, and ye the old joey chavez, as he's doin his thing with Sid Roams now, their stuff is crazy. I'll have to peep the U-N-I..
On another note, some Lp's I was disappointed in have been the masta ace & edo G, M.O.P, Can't believe how weak Rakim's album is...anyone else heard it?! There's a song on it that samples that famous No Doubt tune (!!!???)
Anyone feelin' that Finale Issues track I posted up??
SF Knight said: Can't believe how weak Rakim's album is...anyone else heard it?! There's a song on it that samples that famous No Doubt tune
Haha Yeah I couldn't believe that aswell....Rakim is weak now sampling a No doubt song from 2003! WTF What happened to the soulful, abstract jazz/funk samples on his earlier sh!t.
Just think....
KRS-One & Buckshot - Mega Fail
Rakim - Ultra Fail
Nas - Epic Fail
Jay-Z - Been Failing since Reasonable doubt.
Kool G Rap - Just Fail.
Good job these Underground heads still making the real sh!t.
