I'll start.
Pete Philly & Perquisite - Grateful
EarthTraveler said: Alright, cool. It's inevitable that every music-artist forum gets a "what are you listening to?" thread going, it just happens... but I agree, this one'll be nuts if people post a lot, but I say... GO FOR IT!!
If everyone keeps posting the last song they listened to, we gonna have like 3.500.000 posts in this thread in a week, since the P army are all music lovers, but alright, let's go with the flow.
Asshole, sure there's no need to mention the artiste of that one

Asshole... isn't that that one song by that dude Assault? Oh yeah, and he has guest artists too, right? Those other two fools who can't rap that well... what are their names? Triple L and Thes Nine or something?

So glad you asked. It's the RHCP album "Blood Sugar Sex Magik," where the song 'If you have to ask' if from.
Gooood ol' Joe Pass - All the Things You Are
Sweet live version:
I mean, say what you want to about the Red Hot Chili Peppers after this album, 'cause there was definitely a drop-off in my book... "Soul to Squeeze" was decent (it's on the Coneheads soundtrack... check "Little Renee" by the Digable Planets on that soundtrack too... AWESOME track)... never liked One Hot Minute all that much... Californication was good, but not great... and I REALLY didn't like By The Way (with the possible exception of "Can't Stop", which has that funk in it)... Haven't heard Stadium Arcadium yet, so I can't comment on that one...
But RHCP's early stuff is great... that more punk-funk feel. My favorite is probably Freaky Styley (produced by George Clinton), but everything leading up to Blood Sugar Sex Magik is definitely worth the listen (I think there are four albums and one demo compilation).
Rockers always get into (or start out in) this carefree drug phase, and the funny thing is that the wild and free days are usually the best... after they have to sober up, the music suffers when it "matures"... I mean... maturity is a good thing, but most music captures emotions, and when you start having to think about what you're doing to yourself and others, and you start up-ing your responsibility, your music has no choice but to reflect that shift. That's sorta what happened to my music abilities: I got all responsible and sh*t, and now it's hard for me to hang loose and pound out some good piano.
I hope the P always keep that balance between fun/passion and taking care of f*ckin' business. Amen.
