mate, im not big on celebrity books but you gotta check Scar Tissue by Anthony Kiedis (of Red Hot Chilli Peppers fame), even if u aint a massive RHCP fan its easily the most amazing autobiography i ever read, drugs, sex, violence, fun, its all in there. how the hell hes still alive is beyond me...
I imagined the hammond book to be a bit boring 2bh, the whole book building up to huis crash sorta thing, i do enjoy top gear, but i think hammond is the least intresting, i bet james may would be a good read tho.

See I thought that but then when I started reading it, it caught my attention. He talks about when he was a child being a "dare devil" and how he got to be on top gear. A nice little insight.
I dont think its going to wow you.
But he's on tv a lot so its nice to know a few things about him.
I'm not reading it quickly tho... its there if I want to read something, you know.
Yeah I like James May, his programmes on toys were entertaining.
Also his tour with Oz, when they went around the UK and the US?
Basically just getting drunk haha.
And James wasnt the posh know it all you are led to believe.
I dont usually read autobiographies.
A bit of a money making thing in my eyes.
And I dont know if I really care about someone I've never met enough to read a book about them...
I mean I've never come across someone that does something I really like who has actually writtern an autobiography.
But If Thes or Double K were to release one...
Or Dom Joly... now thats an autobiography I would read. -

At the moment i'm on the 3rd book of the George Martin epic 6 book thing about knights and dragons and sh!t. It's f*cking brilliant, loads of sex and violence and politics. I've gotten heavily sucked in. If you like your fantasy, definitely check it out. The first book is called "a game of thrones". It's actually really well done, lots of intrigue and genius inter-woven stories... -

Posts: 1,874Posted 16 years ago #totally dude. Stick with it though, it's a bit dry at the beginning when he's introducing everyone, I can safely say it gets better and better as it goes on. I just hope he gets the series done before he dies... damn that'd be annoying...
If you're into your sci fi, check out Iain M Banks' sci fi stuff. Very space opera... What was the one I read called again... um... Matter... all the "culture" novels are very good though:

Gang Leader for a Day: Really interesting sociology book examining the crack cocaine trade in the South Side Chicago projects, Robert Taylor Homes I think. The guy was getting his Ph.D from UChi examining this.

havent been reading anything "fun" latley, been trying to spend a few hours a day going over these massive sociology and criminology text books before i go back to uni so it will make life easier. hopfully. but the first book is sat there waitng to be read,

Posts: 1,137Posted 16 years ago #It's sort of complicated, but it's essentially a philosophy book examining modern life (as in the 70's, but really it applies to today as well) and why so many of us want to escape from 'it'. The 'it' meaning the technological metropolis that is the modern city. He talks about classical (scientific, objective, logical thinking) versus romantic (artistic, subjective, emotional thinking) and how the former has brought civilization down a very harsh and unfavorable path. There is so much in there my description couldn't do it justice. Many heads on this forum would like it, since it sort of touches on things like the capitalist machine, selling out, and bad art, which I know we all have opinions about. -

I may have to hang fire buying any books for a bit as i can see seven i gotta read already, but every book looks brilliant. lol.
im doing a major in sociology and a minor in criminology, i wanted to do straight sociology but my uni doesnt do it and the difficulty in finding an alternative uni that would accept me wasnt worth the hassal, ah well, when im doing criminology with the police science guys i can proper rip em to peices now. bring the police force down from the inside.... mwahahahah. lol.
but yeah, ive just completed a foundation yeah and i start "proper" uni in september, if u aint guessed im at a very basic level in both subjects compared to some of you guys, as in i know what i think, but to explain it properly is my difficulty, frankly me even bein in uni amazes me as im distinctly average in the intelligence levels.
lol.
so what u goin to be doin xactly dodo? and whats ur hopes for when u pass?
