What up yall!

Been on a two week hiatus so here's a quick run down:

Me and Newman were down in Mexico City pounding the paving and picking up records left and right. To any potential beatdiggers trying to hit it...too late.
The damage has been done in a serious way!
Got home from that and headed to Baja, BCs Mexico with the fam (home of the bloquera sessions) to chill out in the water. It was proper and now I am definately ready to get busy in the studio once again.
Oh yeah... after 1 hour and 20 minutes, Myself, my father and Indi One of the Aestetics crew successfully landed a 9 ft. 600+ pound Blue Marlin in a small wooden ponga boat. Something like that only happens once a lifetime if you're lucky. We were actually trolling for Dorado when it hooked up.

Here's a foto of ya man and Ritu with two dorado and the Marlin. We got fish to eat for the next year! I should sell it on the Piecelock Store!

80 pound test but we almost snapped it numerous times. The damn fish kept jumping whole body out of the water creating serious slack in the line, then taking off at full speed to snap it. It was all about keeping the drag set right and letting it run when it had to, which is why it took over an hour to land.

Denny ~ Yes I went to SC. I was offered a scholarship to thier English department to study Creative Writing. I graduated 99, a year after we released the next step and pretty much signed with Om right away, kind of changing the direction I was headed with my degree and really making music a full time job for Mike and I. Going to college was an important experience for me and I would definately say that it can be whatever you make it. It's more about what you learn while you are there then what they teach you, if you know what I mean. If you take advantage of the fact that you are there and really use the resources that are available, like college radio or the library resources etc. it can be pumpin'. Plus the parties are the best
As far as music goes, I studied trumpet for two years but never really got good (I was more interested in sampling at the time). What I did learn was some theory and of course how to read music. Reading hasn't really helped me but the theory and understanding of chords, keys, notes etc. and how they all relate really has. If you go back and check alot of the loops one would notice that I am preferential to diminished chords and catching loops with a change right in the middle. Of course most of the stuff I do by ear without really calculating what is what or how it will work together. It is mostly a lot of trial, error, patience and time.

haha thes. im on a scholarship for creative writing too to Uft for next year. What kinda stuff did you write?.. And yeah, i played trumpet for 3 years and quit. Hard ass instrument. As opposed to any other instrument, you cant really see all the notes layed out in front of you, like a piano or the frets on a guitar. And you cant play with the chords, which i also really enjoy. I know wat youre sayin about the change in the middle - LA Song on ost is an example of that, right? Always dope. Generic loops are the worst thing. One "off" chord can make such a difference. Hell of a marlin there btw...

Damn.. tough question. If anything I would say that the most important thing is to have a plan and goals. It sounds like you have found something, aside from b-boying that you are passionate about, which is dope. Studying with no direction isn't the joint, neither is being a middle aged b-boy with no career. I would have to defer to Noonen on that one. It's tough to say. bust it though... it's kind of more than an if I were you thing because I was you in a sense. Mike and I started making what later became The Next Step while I was a freshman in college. It's possible to keep pumpin while being in school. By the time I was a junior though I started wondering about the who what where and why.. just because I was getting ready to release the record and didn't know what was going take more time. And for what it's worth, I haven't technically used my diploma once since i left the bookstore for the last time. But in a sense I have, because the work ethic, knowing how to hit deadlines, etc. has all made me a better b-boy and I wouldn't have mastered that had I not finished school. I'm sure you have plenty of completed units already in the pocket. I would stick it out and look into getting back into the system and using it to your advantage. I'm still trying to diversify and skill up myself. It's part of growth nawmean?

Yo I'm so sorry to hear that man. 8 years is a long time but I'm sure it will be for the best. I had my car towed once and I thought for about 3 hours that the damn thing was stolen. Sucks.

damn i didn't know you could get scholarships for writing. i wish i would have known that before i enrolled at west point. findin bin laden part two, featuring philosophical, watch out for it.
